Captain and head coach will have to work closely so it seems sensible that Franklin be given time to get to know the players before the captaincy decision is made. Having said that the only possible candidate is Steel.Smith would no doubt be a good captain but his form doesn't guarantee a place.
Interestingly nothing from the club as yet 're Franklin.

Durham tweet a photo of Cameron Bancroft wearing the team shirt ...and shortly afterwards he was out for a 3rd ball duck. The curse strikes again.

Yorkshire had a shortlist of 7 before appointing Grayson but whom they were isn't revealed. Reasonable to assume that the same suspects would have applied for the Durham post. Looks increasingly unlikely that the successful applicant will be a "big name"

Yep. And the clock is ticking down towards the start of the season - with presumably intensive pre-season practice being only a few weeks away.

Nor any mention of pre-season friendlies or tours. No change there then.

Amusing comment from Colly ( he's in the Sky studio ) The Durham team had a quiz night a few years ago and one of the questions was about the identity of the West Indies ' 3Ws' Phil Mustard got two of them right but thought the third one was Wavell Hinds!

Yeh, I saw that. Bit naughty of Colly. Wonder if Colonel has now retired from cricket-had a bit of a mare for Felling last season.

Quite possibly. He might be in line for a coaching job!

Is Axar playing for Durham this year :?:

He was in few A squads so maybe he is unlikely to be available for many matches.

Cameron Bancroft is the overseas player - subject to any Australia call ups but there's at least one vacancy for the T20 competition. I guess Durham will be waiting to appoint the T20 coach ( they're splitting the coaching roles this year, one will do the First Class and List A competitions with a separate T20 coach) before making any decisions on overseas players for the comp.

Thank you. Lot of T20 coaches available with relevant experience now at various franchisee tournaments.

Yep, should be plenty of decent candidates. There was something on cricinfo a few days ago about James Franklin being lined up as FC/List A coach but nothing has been confirmed.

Mike Hesson , the ex Black Caps coach would be free as he will be done coaching Kings 11 Punjab in IPL. If he is not commentating in NZ, he is one option. Mahela Jayawardene is coach for Khulna Titans and Mumbai Indians. He will also be free as BPL will be over this month and IPL before WC. Brad Hodge is another. Stephen Fleming too will be free by that time.
