A backhanded compliment if there ever was one.
meninblue wrote:James Franklin as coach is shocking. He was playing till last year, did commentary at year end in some matches. Which and how much experience does he has as a coach. Even cash strapped franchisees of Bangladesh Premiere league and Pakistan Super League have better coaches. In fact even the T10 franchisee tournament in UAE had renowned coaches.

A bit harsh to condemn Franklin without trial surely, Meninblue. He's an experienced International Cricketer in tests and ODIs, extensive 1st class experience and captained a team to a county championship. He hasn't held any coaching posts previously but had he done so, and been available, it would probably be because he'd been sacked from such a post. He's always appeared to be knowledgeable and articulate when interviewed.

Yep. Looks as if his pace is back although we'll have to see if he can sustain it over a few spells in a day - although a second spell might not be needed today! If WI collapse and Jennings is in and out before the close I think Bob Willis will explode!

Aussies used to bowl the Tash in 3 over bursts of brutal aggression.... in theory it should have been easy to see him off, but in practice he terrified the batsmen into meekly giving their wickets away

Sounds like a good plan. I think Wood bowled 7 overs in his first spell ( albeit either side of the tea break )and the commentators were saying he should have had a shorter spell.

Colly mentioned in the press as favourite to take over from Farbrace.

I thought his future was more likely to be with England than Durham. Sounds as if it will be.

Things will change when Bayliss goes though. If Colly doesn't get that job, maybe the new coach will have other ideas.

Yes. The new one might want a clean slate. I have a feeling Giles suggested they may split the coaching role again between one day and test cricket. I'd be looking for a new batting coach too!

Farbrace is leaving for Warwickshire in March. Giles is keen on splitting the England jobs
so I can see why the smart money is in Colly for the white part. Vaughan for the Test one?

Could well be Vaughn, very close friends with Giles.

a great pity really, because I still foolishly harboured the unlikely hope that Colly might take our T20 head coach role until Bayleaf the gardener had parted company with England after a poor world cup and an embarrassing home ashes defeat
