Yes, I think most of those bowlers are handy with the bat. They are much better than tailenders. An effective spinner will be a real asset and as you say is something we've not had for a long time.

westoelad wrote:Makes perfect sense engaging a top class spinner. We have and will continue to produce top batsmen and top seamers but in 25 years have been unable to produce an even half decent spinner. We're not alone in that, of course. Batting wise there's a fair chance that a few amongst Harte, Jones, Weighell or Carse might surprise us like Steel did last season.
Might also be a final wake up call for Pringle.

I spotted this while i was away. I've long bashed on about us never signing a quality spinner, so I hope Axar turns out to be a quality one

If anyone is going to the Meet the players evening I'd appreciate if they could post feedback on this thread

24 players who are so good that the only one I could consider picking for my fantasy league team was released by Lancs last year

Crikey... when I think how good the Durham squad was in 2008/9... makes you weep when you look at it now

Aye, we've had our moments and no doubt we'll have them again. FTECB.

FTECB indeed. Counties have just discovered IPL pay compensation to clubs for their players involved in IPL. It's currently 20% of the auction price, previously 10%, but FTECB kept quiet and kept the money. I reckon that means Durham have been deprived of £400k over the last 2 seasons based on Stokes' auction price. FTECB.

I wasn't aware that there was any compen paid, but I presume FTECB keep Stokes and Woods money because they are centrally contracted.... certainly with Stokes who has a contract for everything. TBH the only thing that surprises me is that FTECB have never charged us for the privilege of having Stokes available to score no runs and only contribute 3 maidens for us in a washed out CC game. Got to be worth a few grand, I would have thought.... maybe give the money to Surrey to help them pay the wages of all the players they nick off us

Being paying it since IPL began apparently and although Stokes is centrally contracted, that's a yearly contract but He's still Durham contracted and was produced by Durham. It's also Durham whom he's be playing for during the period of the IPL. Anyway D.F., what the hell you playing at,trying to justify FTECB actions? You'll be buying Graves pints next. :horse

not trying to justify anything on behalf of FTECB, just trying to peer into their devious little minds

Had a walk around the ground. Back of the trapdoor stand barricaded up with " Danger. Keep Out" signs! Very encouraging.

don't want any innocent bystanders inadvertently moving the precariously balanced bucket of water that's waiting for any members of FTECB who come to make an inspection
