According to legsidelizzy in The Times. Durham are " on course towards a much more secure financial footing" and are more confident of keeping the best players. Revenue from the World Cup and the 100 ball tournament (!)are both factors.
The hotel plans get yet another mention and there's also the hope of " an influx of cash from a small residential development on the Lumley Castle side of the ground." Time will tell.
So if we are able to retain players we won't have to worry about Poynter and Rimmingon being snapped up by Lancashire or Sorry!

Improving finances
Durham — who are trying to rebuild on and off the pitch after a difficult couple of years following a financial crisis, tough sanctions imposed on them by the ECB and having lost a number of their best players to other counties — look to be on course towards a much securer financial footing.

Additional revenue being given to all counties over the next few years from the World Cup and the new hundred-ball tournament mean that the county are hopeful of hanging on to their most talented players, rather than losing them to Division One clubs.

The county also have ambitious plans to build a hotel at the Lumley End of the ground, which will start bringing in revenue as soon as it is complete, and they are hoping to get another influx of cash from a small retirement residential development, also on the Lumley Castle side of the ground.

But the county have allayed fears that the development will not obscure the view of the iconic castle.

Just noticed an article from yesterday's Times about the trapdoor stand. It was repaired at a cost of £100,000 and apparently the injured spectators have received compensation under the clubs insurance policy.
The council are publishing a report within the next few weeks on their investigation of the collapse but it's not expected to have any impact on our ability to host internationals.

Given that Durham chose to dispense with the maintenance services of the stand providers I assume the 100k cost was paid by the club - might be some insurance payments? I don't know how it works.

Or maybe the repairs were paid for by ditching Onions!

Durham CCC encouraging child cruelty - free entry to kids for the T20 v Worcestershire on July 20th.
Seriously though it's a very good idea and with such a big ground they should consider doing more deals - it's not as if the place will be even a third full for any game apart from maybe Yorkshire.
Downside is the youngsters might be put off for life if they watch us play T20. :facepalm
