Three years is showing a lot of faith considering his last two years or so but it has to be worth a gamble - there's every chance he will come good again.

Stokes trial nearing the end according to the reporters in court , the jury likely to start deliberations this afternoon.

you were right, then, about him joining early....... good shout

and if Stokes is available, then that all helps give a different look to the side... presumably Woody is available too

FTECB will doubtless move quickly to prevent us fielding anything remotely resembling a strong side, though.

Lees signing is a good one...i hope he can re-discover old form....looked like getting in england side at one point, i hope he can re-find that form

Agreed - definitely worth a punt. Only 25, with a decent record, and time to improve. Good to see someone coming in instead of going out!

Leesy desperately needed a change of scenery, rumours that he and Gale have fallen out long ago hence the poor form.

Would love it if Alex Lees turns it around, just to stick two fingers up at Gale more than anything.

Presumably, the fact that we've made this move means that the club know that Colly won't be playing on next season, otherwise I'm guessing we wouldn't have the money?

Injuries seem to be taking an increasing roll so I think you'll be right about Colly returning. I think the Lees signing is a good one but it is a risk so I think we need to bring in at least one more batsman - someone with a proven track record and good current form. Also at least one strike bowler.

I think there must be additional cash to spare because the wave of departures last year must mean we are well below FTECB's salary cap. The big problem might be in finding players willing to come when they could go to a div 1 team.

Hopefully the move will reignite Lees career. It would be sad to see all that promise fizzle out.

Fingers crossed it works out. No reason why he shouldn't regain his form although opening / batting at 3 at the Riverside is a big challenge!

and maybe we are looking at him with a view to taking over as captain

although knowing JJB he'll probably appoint Poynter as skip when Colly does eventually retire

Lees has also opened, I think, which is one of the problematic slots for us.... hence why we waste shed loads of money on early season overseas openers despite it never having worked for us.... later season yes... early season no

and if he does open then we can spend our overseas budget on a snarling overseas fast bowler who will really provide us with early season value for money

A very good idea.

we should be talking to James Pattinson's agent already
