So going into the new season as defending champions, we have a new coach in Anthony McGrath, hopefully shouldn't be too different from Silverwood, as they made a good combo..not too many signings yet..

For first 5 CC games Peter Siddle, and for the blast Adam Zampa has come in

The volatile nature of CC1 means champions Essex can't be assumed they won't be fighting off relation next September (or November or whenever the CC finishes these days).

If im honest im not a huge fan of it, but it's the way the game has been for a while now, and is here to stay....im not overly thrilled with either aussie signing to be honest..

Neil Wagner has re-signed with us for the new season as well :) Siddle is only there for 5 games, then Wagner takes over, and subject to avaliablity has signed for the whole season in all formats...now that is a signing im happy with!

For some reason I thought that Wagner had only signed to the end of july

We are invovled in the traditional curtain raiser against MCC being played in Bridgetown, fair to say a tough 1st day for the defending champions

Batting first bowled out for 187

Nic Browne made 48 and James Foster 34 in a suprising move, spinner Aaron Nijar opened the batting alongisde Browne

For the MCC Gleeson took 5-50 to keep his name in the selector's thoughts

MCC closed on 73-2 in reply, with Northeast and Hain at the crease

Wheater opening with Browne in the place of the missing Cook, don't know why he didn't open instead of Nijar against MCC?!

Going well at the moment 166-1 from only 36 overs

Nic Browne 98* and Westley 16* Wheater made a half century :clap
