Just checking out the bowling averages, whilst looking at Dawson's stats, and despite having had a very poor season by his standards, Abbott's average is only slightly worse than Berg's (and better than Wheal, Wood and Holland). He's also our second highest wicket taker, although has easily bowled more balls than everyone else apart from Fidel.

That said, his average is miles behind Steyn, Fidel and Dawson (who are all almost identical, at a slither below 30).

Yep, Abbott hasn't had a great season with the ball but he is always capable of lower order runs when we're in trouble.

Played one four-day match (scored a grand total of 18 across both innings). That's his only game, in all formats.

Safe to say that he's been quite vocal about his lack of action, especially given how poor some of the batters have been for us across the formats.

But it does mean we've happily let him return to Zimbabwe for his brother's wedding. And then go over to America for a holiday at Disneyland. (Although on the rare occasions where he has been in the country, and playing for the 2nds, he has been scoring quite heavily.)

The second batting point, and a 50 for Abbott, in quick succession. Safe to say that these two have pulled us back into the game. This season, 250 first innings is an achievement for us.

Steyn isn't the worst with the bat either.

Three times in that innings we lost three for not-very-many.

Granted, a least spacing them out meant we got two decent partnerships in between (and ultimately a half-decent score), but it's still very worrying. A common trait these collapses this season.

Still, on paper I would rather have our bowling attack than theirs, so lets see how we respond.

Notts bringing a nightwatchman out here does, in a weird sort of way, solve their problem of a long tail. In normal batting order, it comes across as if they have a number 9 and three numbers 11s batting 8 to 11.

But taking out one of those number 11s, and having him bat at 4, sort of solves that. Hopefully though we can get rid of him tonight - which would probably tilt the day into our favour.

Or even better, get out the actual batter at the other end! Fidel really loves bowling against Notts, his record is great.

Win this game, and we roughly move to within one win of Notts (despite them having already won four games) - and with a game in hand over them.

A totally different team without Ross Taylor, Broad and Ball in it (which is understandable).

Sure is! Wonder why Mullaney is batting low down the order? Think he usually opens in 4 day cricket.
