Durham head coach Jon Lewis told BBC Newcastle:

"It is unacceptable and I can't use words you can broadcast to describe it and how I really feel.

"It is the first time I have used the word embarrassed about one of my teams but it was an embarrassment.

"It is happening so often. The batting group do not have a great deal of confidence and when they play on a difficult surface this keeps happening."It is not the first time this year a bowler in their first spell has not just done us damage, but blown us away."

and he can say all that, and it can be absolutely true, but it's on his *modded* watch.... he takes the blame. This feels like a bad workman blaming his tools.

Did we have to go for an uncontested toss? It was easy enough to check the weather forecast to see that the serious weather warnings were for today. If conditions were that farcical with the wind, then it might have been Leics batting today had we won a toss.......

except, of course.... we probably wouldn't have been able to bat all day yesterday, the way they did

I wonder what nasty surprises they have in store for Colly's farewell game next week? One of the all time greats taking a final bow should be an occasion for celebrating a magnificent career. I'm sure it will be but the chances of the actual game being a memorable disaster must be pretty high!

I have some sympathy with him because imo the batsmen he has aren't good enough - and he has managed to bring in some good players in Lees, Raine and Bancroft. Although if there is not a significant improvement next year with an improved squad I think he will have to go. My feeling is that we need at least two more batsmen with a track record of scoring prolifically in FC cricket.

Interesting game for the 2nd at Scarborough where play was abandoned because of the wind

Sounds like they had a dramatic day.Players not being able to stand up straight and bowlers getting blown sideways!
It's a pity the day's play at Grace Road wasn't abandoned too!

He surely has to play. What's the point of signing another wicket keeper and then only use him as essentially a specialist fielder at 8/9 in the T20!

If we're hopeless what does that make Glamorgan? Martin Emmerson tweeted they have lost 4 out of the last 6 games by an innings! Even our lot aren't quite that bad.

I think Leics had done that until they played us. People in glass houses....

I think they had! It took a miracle to beat them at home and then we had this weeks fiasco. I was going to say it can't be any worse next year but that might be tempting fate!

although I am generally encouraged by the signings for next year

Ha..... remember when we wondered if we were good enough to go straight back up despite the 48 points deduction?

I wondered the same thing. I assumed if we didn't go straight back up we'd miss it by a handful of points and be able to blame the draconian sanctions.
