there were many stranger decisions made around the counties tonight....

Williamson coming in for Yorks after Plunkett and Bresnan in a match where they lost by 1 run and he couldn't hit the winning runs with the second ball he faced

Elliott coming into bat after a 21 yo bowler in a match where they also failed to hit the winning runs, with Elliott not facing a ball

these are all highly paid professional T20 boys.... why are they not taking personal responsibility in the tightest situations?

why are they being allowed to not take responsibility by the counties who pay through the nose for their services?

Me neither. Williamson scored runs for fun in the IPL and as you say those other specialist T20 players are presumably there because they have the ability to make match winning contributions when the pressure is on.

Tahir only around for another 3 matches, I think, so we need to find someone else to batten down those middle overs alongside Colly

and I'm still puzzled by our insistence on having either LT or J the W coming in at 4. I've had a look at the figures and they aren't very impressive

J the W has scored 10 runs off 15 balls faced

LT has 16 runs of his 15, but 4 of those runs came off the last ball yesterday when we only needed a single, so I imagine that once he'd hit it, everyone stopped running, and he could reasonably be said to have scored 13 off 15 balls.

often this has come after we've made good starts and scoring at rates of between 66 and 90, just sucks the life out of the innings.

we need a number 4 badly and Steel, if he's fit, would be the most obvious solution

and if we are determined to have a pinch hitter promoted up the order if things are going well, then Davies has hit 3 of his 26 balls faced for 6. the only players to have hit more sixes than Davies have all faced many, many more deliveries... between 3 and 5 times as many deliveries

For all I know, LT might be a gun fielder, but if he is, he doesn't need to come in at 4 to justify his place in the side

Amazing turnaround and I think most of us expected it'd be even worse this year!
Weighell has shown he has the potential to make runs in the CC and he seems to have the power that could be useful in T20. Perhaps he has just been unlucky. It does seem odd though for both him and Trevaskis to have come in up the order. Unless it's to try and split up the more experienced players.

I agree. There must be better options - Poynter for starters.

Did Lewis say we were going to sign a replacement for Tahir or was it another vague statement? I can't remember.
