Davies should be in for any of the middle order but I'm not confident he will be.

I agree he should be but probably won't. Maybe North wants to have a look at the incumbents - he better get there early if he does!

You misspelt incompetent! :lmao
The fact that North is starting immediately suggests he was appointed some time ago so he's probably made his assessments already. Bostock clearly knew about his appointment but I wander how much Lewis knew even at the time of the forum.

Hard to tell how much he knew. The official line is that Colly announced his decision to retire shortly after that forum but it would be odd if there was no indication whatsoever and they were caught unawares. Seems a coincidence too that he reached a final decision one hour after it finished. Cook is another mystery - when was the decision made about him and who knew about it.

I think he will play. with Colly in the side (and bowling in the last debacle) we don't need another 5th seamer, imo. I'd leave out McCarthy too and can't see a role for Ben W

then again, I'm usually wrong about these things

I'm not sure why McCarthy played last week if he is going at the end of the season. Seems odd but no doubt there's some reason for it that's beyond my understanding.
Farewell endings like the one Cooky had the other week don't often happen but there's always a chance and no one deserves it more than Colly. What's the betting though - if it's an uncontested toss - he'll be in ( and maybe out :facepalm ) before lunch tomorrow?!

Lewis said at the forum Sussex initially planned to have a toss only to change plans on the morning of the game with black dark overhead conditions.
Blue skies today and Middlesex have had a toss, won it and are batting first.

42/3 and already some uneven bounce according to Martin Emmerson. That doesn't bode well for our innings.

92/6. Is North going to include the groundsman as part of his review?!
No wonder our batting averages are so low.

113/7 at lunch. Middlesex have probably got enough now.

Harris out for 31 on the stroke of lunch. 113/7. According to the BBC Middlesex commentator the decision to bat was because they felt it would get progressively worse and he thinks 150 might be a good score.
Sounds ominous! Barring a big post-lunch recovery from Middlesex ( always a distinct possibility ) it might be another Riverside day one where the third innings is in progress before close of play.

Yep! If they'd opted to bowl they would be batting now as well!
