9 down but past the first innings score. :clap
The batting has been a big issue all season but I think I'll regard today as a fluke. The conditions must be to blame.
And as I type the last wicket falls.66 all out.

It's happened too many times this season.
Conditions were difficult but Leics scored 300+ yesterday. Commentators are in agreement on that.
Marty doesn't seem to think that North is nailed on as DoC. Worryingly says the appointment will come from within

I wonder if Colly will be a candidate? Or maybe Lewis moving 'upstairs'.
Agree about the regular collapses, Colly's loss of form has left the batting short of class - the openers have promise and Lees in particular looks good but imo the rest of them aren't good enough. Bancroft coming in should help but need at least 2 more quality batsmen.

From a reliable source
"Geoff has been around the age group sides mostly. My understanding is Lewis doesn’t want him anywhere near the 1st team because, in his words, it’s not his remit."
Wonder if today's performance was a measure of dismay in the direction ,or non-direction, the club is taking.

Sounds as if it's shambolic behind the scenes!
Although to be fair to them they have managed to bring in players who had other options - so not just the usual cast offs. That suggests there is hope for the future but they need to get the right man in as DOC.

Sounds as if Lewis has lost patience with them!

Durham head coach Jon Lewis told BBC Newcastle:

"It is unacceptable and I can't use words you can broadcast to describe it and how I really feel.

"It is the first time I have used the word embarrassed about one of my teams but it was an embarrassment.

"It is happening so often. The batting group do not have a great deal of confidence and when they play on a difficult surface this keeps happening.

"It is not the first time this year a bowler in their first spell has not just done us damage, but blown us away."

Drat! I missed it.
Did he have anything intereesting to say? I assume that the reference to restructuring in the press release was a kind way of saying that he'd been told his time was up as opposed to him deciding to go.
Seems a very poor way to treat him if that's the case.

Cooky is far too nice a person to say anything derogatory about the club but it was what he didn't say that is significant. Noticeably he didn't say that he decided to go. Clearly he has been dismissed.

Thanks. He could/would have made it clear if he'd chosen to retire so the decision must have been made by the new Chief Executive probably in conjunction with Sir Ian Botham.

Blimey that is some chastening defeat. I was following the score up to 20/4 in the second innings and was wondering if the game would end today. Can't be many occasions where a side has been bowled out twice in one day.

The only crumb of comfort I can think off, apart from the result not having much effect on any promotion aspirations, is that at least it didn't happen against Leics last season!

 Yep!
Batting has been dire this season but out twice for under 70 in a couple of sessions has to be a fluke.
However there might be a few more than Colly having a farewell appearance next week! Numbers 3,4,5 and 7 for starters!

According to the Sky stats man Benedict runs per wicket in the CC this year are the lowest since 1974.
So some mitigation perhaps - although maybe our hopeless displays are in no small part responsible!

Yep, i was only checking the batting and bowling points in div one the other day, and the former massively outweighs the latter. Teams have only dropped a handful of bowling points all season. Looking at div two, it seems even more pronounced.

In fact Surrey are the only side who have scored more batting than bowling in both divisions, kind of demonstrates why they strolled to the title.
