I have to say I struggle to buy all that
Not that many years ago, I remember sitting in the ground with Southwood discussing why, with what was a much better attack then than it is today, we were continually conceding 300 run partnerships in the first innings. Now this was after the drainage was put in and when FTECB banned the use of the heavy roller between innings. I think we came to the conclusion that we were preparing rock hard pitches to make sure we weren't being penalised for the pitch breaking up too quickly..... the river was still there, so this idea that the river affects the pitch and there's nothing we can do about it doesn't wash with me
just sounds like more JJB bollox

Talking to Cook years back(pre drainage system) and he said that the water table is high below ground and so after heavy rain moisture is very near to the surface. The situ of the ground also makes swing excessive whenever there's any cloud cover. Not a lot a groundsman can do about that. The batsmen aren't entirely blameless though. Several times this season Clark and Richardson in particular have give their wickets away when looking comfortable chasing wide deiveries.
Thanks for the forum feedback captain- I'm astonished they're negotiating a new contract with Colly unless it's a coaching role.
