He hasn't been on yet so I think he isn't able to bowl.

Could be a close one. Helpful for DCCC if Rayner can't bowl.

That's it for Colly gone for 10 in his final innings and at 67/4 with 100 more needed my money is on a Middlesex win. It's either a very tricky pitch now or we're making it look bad. Steel has 15 runs in almost 28 overs and has survived a dropped catch!

And now Davies has run himself out by dozily loitering outside his crease!
Unless someone can play a quick 30/40 cameo here I think we're done for. 79 to win.

81 to win - I was looking at the wrong part of the scoreboard. Davies was out with the score on 79!

Rayner into the action catching Steel! 97/6 and I think this'll be over soon - either a flurry of runs or ,far more likely, a clatter of wickets!

Rayner at it again in the slips! Wood gone for 0 and surely heading for defeat. Colly out to an ankle height delivery but poor dismissals from most of the others.
Another one gone as I type!

A fitting end to the season with the customary batting collapse! Very poor to lose after - for once - having a commanding first innings lead.

Sorry about this, but is that Durham's worst ever season (I don't mean worst placing)? Third bottom. Or does the aftermath of the travesty of 2017 excuse that performance?

You clearly weren't watching Durham in the 1st decade of their 1st class existence.

Not the worst. There was one season in the mid 90's where we didn't win any 4 day games and I think we lost all but one or two of the one day matches!
Very poor though but with Bancroft and Raine coming in - and hopefully at least a couple more I think we'll be ok next year.
Lees keeps getting out in the 20's but has had a few poor decisions and he looks very good so I'm confident he will be a success.

If we'd knocked those runs off and with our reasonable 1st inns score it might just have fooled the new DoC that our batting was passable. He now must be convinced that major surgery is required. I hope Colly was speaking with inside knowledge when he said he was hoping for two more additions. A top class batting coach is also essential.

That's why I said not the worst placing. I know they regularly struggled early on, but that was after a big step up.

Yeah. Given that there wasn't a points deduction this year it has to be one of the worst seasons. Finished below some very ordinary sides so no real excuses!

To be fair, almost every team has been horrific with the bat. Apart from Surrey and Warks.
