Yep. This bizarre batting lineup is bad enough - Latham surely has to open - but the bowling isn't giving the batsmen a chance. They go for over 400 ( against very moderate lineups ) in the 4 day game and 300 plus in the one dayers.
They are incapable of applying any pressure with the new ball so teams get off to flying starts without losing any wickets.

Start the car - Richo out now and he was bowled so can't blame the umpire! 27/3.

Colly unbelievable schoolboy error. Keeps his bat aloft after missing a lavish drive and well out his crease. By the time he turns and grounds his bat stumps are down. Pringle was trying to glance a full delivery.
No signs that Potts was injured but I'd rest him for Rushy. Clearly Latham has to open. Colly clearly struggling with an ankle injury when bowling

This ankle injury is a big problem, if it's affecting his bowling it must also hamper his batting. Lots of batters struggling early season but if he doesn't make a big score soon it might be time to worry if this is a season too far for him - if anyone can turn it around he can but there must be some doubts creeping in.
Latham not opening seems ridiculous, he's a world class batsman playing in a poor side so if he comes in at 4 or 5 the situation is almost certainly going to be a hopeless one.
Will Smith is more than useful as a one day bowler so I think I'd leave out Harding and play Steel as the extra batsman.

Second X1 must have been inspired by the senior players - lost against Northants who started with a 150 run opening stand.
Rushworth bowled 8 overs and McCarthy 6. Jones (73), Steel ( 80) and Davies ( 65) scored runs.

Rushworth and Steel both in the squad for tomorrow's Derbyshire defeat game.
Potts is out but Matt Dixon is included. :scared

I'd like to think that list is in batting order. Best way to make a solid start is Latham,Steel opening with Smith 3. 4 to 10 can come in in any order they like.

Yep! Although the trouble is you are using logic in having specialist top order players in the top 3 - the 'plan' we are following seems to be to use specialist middle order players at the top and then have the openers bat in the middle order!
I think Lewis was right to blame the bowlers for the first two defeats but the batting order we put out meant that the chances of successfully chasing those scores went from slim to non existent.

Won toss and batting. Colly and Weighell omitted -have to assume they 're both injured.

That might explain why Colly didn't bowl his full overs at Old Trafford. Dixon is playing too. :scared

Just when things were going well Steel runs himself out by the sounds of it. Richardson in at 3.

Everytime we look like putting together a big partnership a wicket goes down! Everyone so far getting in and then getting out.

And now the collapse - 158/5!

Unless it's a poor pitch this seems to be a text book example of how not to construct a one day innings. Top order all make starts but then get out so we don't have wickets in hand for a final acceleration.

Handy stand between Rushworth & Rimmington at the end to set a target of 273. Not a big score these days but at least it's something to work with. Trouble is that the bowling attack looks poor!
