First wicket goes to Colly.

I'm at the ground. Poynter is keeping wicket so the bbc card had it wrong.
The old scoreboard is either not working again or switched off
The MCCU opener has had enough batting and retired not out. As the PA crackled into life to make the announcement there was a loud thud as either the microphone got dropped or the guy fell off his chair.

Just picked up the score card and Richo is down as keeper. He's on the field ( unless someone who looks like him is wearing his squad number- pitch is towards the old score board so it's hard to tell!)

No threat whatsoever in this bowling.
Outfield must still be iffy because the boundary in front of the pavilion is about halfway to the pitch!

Declared so we have about 50 overs to bat.

Yep. I'd have expected a clatter of wickets this morning even though the bowlers will be undercooked.

Smith out for 41 and Harte in at 3. He must be going to play against Kent otherwise why would he be batting? Surely they're not going to leave out Richardson? Although Clarke was down to come in at 3 on the score card but he has to play?
McCarthy listed as 12th man so presumably not under consideration - not sure why!

Harte didn't last long and Clarke is in now.

Richo is in now.

I don't know why Harte batted, either, because he has to be the one to make way for the OS...... unless it's a straight shoot out between him and Richardson?

Could be a straight shoot out. They seem obsessed with Poynter as keeper - I picked up the Yearbook this afternoon , last year in the CC Poynter scored 269 runs in 14 innings @ 20.69. Richardson didn't have a great season but scored 460 runs in 16 innings @30.67 although his top score 82 came towards the end of the season when he was keeping wicket.
Without a proper all-rounder they surely need a keeper batting in the top 6. Poynter can't do it and if Richardson isn't going to they should have signed someone who can do it.

well... we scratched our heads over Clark and he came good, so perhaps the club feel that Poynter can do something similar and just needs time

They must do - probably more hope than expectation!
Match drawn - at least the likely starters against Kent made some runs. The bowlers have had a runout but one wicket for the specialists against a University side is not an auspicious start.

MC Carthy played for Ireland v Somerset(3-66) so has had some recent red ball practise so that's maybe why he was omitted. Harte at 3 could be to have kept the rest of the batting order as it's intended to be v Kent.

Markram
Steel
Smith
Clark
Richardson
Colly
Harte
Rimmington
Potts
McCarthy
Rushworth

Temperature forecast to be 20°C on Friday :pint

T-shirt and shorts required!
That lineup looks decent, didn't realise McCarthy had played v Somerset - probably makes sense to have given the others a go.
I wonder if Richardson has some sort of niggle that stopped him keeping wicket today ? He was on the scorecard as keeper but Ireland's answer to Adam Gilchrist was doing the job! I'd certainly play the extra batsman - if Poynter is at 7 it makes for a very long tail even though most of the bowlers can bat.
There's some waffle from Lewis in the Yearbook about how having a smaller squad than last year has advantages as well as disadvantages - time will tell on that one!
