Presumably Worcs, and then one of Yorks or Somerset.

Yorks?

Before the season starts, it feels possible that any side could go down. Even the holders.

Certainly. I'd suggest that Surrey are the least likely to go down - they'll rarely, if ever, lose at home - but no-one is safe.

Basically, good luck to anyone trying to predict the order of the eight D1 teams (unlike the bottom end of D2, but that's another topic...)

Thanks for everything Pothas. You'll be missed. My nickname for you was apt and I will never forget it. For the last time, arise Sir Nic.

I went Worcestershire ahead of Notts, but Notts don't have the early season services of Pattinson this time around, nor do they have Chris Read to save them when things get rough..... and Alex Hales, of course. Last year Worcs overhauled a stuttering Notts side, that perhaps overstretched themselves trying to compete in all 3 comps, (which they will try to do again, presumably) so perhaps Notts are more at risk than Worcestershire.

I went Lancs ahead of Yorks, but that was mostly because I'd rather like the chance to tell the ship jumpers to ssip off, in a year's time. I didn't go Somerset, although I would like to, because no one can possibly guess what new ways they may have found to spike their pitch and take the outdated, endlessly tiresome, meaningful cricket out of the results equation. Rumour has it they intend to endlessly sandpaper the entire wicket, if they can find a hardware store that the Aussie national team hasn't already emptied of the stuff.... failing that they may have to fall back on their old favourite of calling in the bomb squad to give the pitch a bit of 'spice'

Notts have Ross Taylor, who is a good signing. And Ball for the whole season.

And Samit.

Worcs expected favourites to go down. Still a couple of weeks to vote.
