One thing that seems to be consistent, is comments about uncontested tosses reducing scores. I am not really sure why that is a result of uncontested tosses. Surely its in the interest of the home side to provide a pretty average deck, one that doesnt give too many advantages to the away teams choice. Yet, since it came in, and despite of a hot dry and very long summer, all we are getting is wickets that are doing everything.

I cant understand why teams are doing it

Are they doing it or is it the balls? In the tests the ball was doing a lot even when conditions were not exceptionally conducive. Maybe similar in county cricket.

So it looks as if there'll be no Durham and Yorkshire championship matches next year and we'll have to deal with Onions and Jennings instead!

Somerset won't be deducted points for their pitch against Lancashire. Pretty rambling statement!

The trouble with the whole thing is the phrase "best pitch possible". What do they mean? Why does no team ever get penalised for preparing a completely flat track. That never gets points deducted yet makes for poor cricket. Many pitches favour the seamer but usually poor batting is blamed. Excessive turners often pick up a deduction. All types of poor pitches need to be treated equally.

Yes. It's a very tricky judgement on what constitutes a poor pitch. The game this week at the Riverside with 3 out of 4 innings just over a hundred with 300 plus in between. After the first two innings I was sure it was a terrible surface but at the members forum last night Jon Lewis said it looked like a test match type of surface and Sussex were seriously considering opting for a toss when they were practicing the day before the game and only opted to bowl when it was gloomy overhead on Monday morning.

Sixteen wickets in the game for Brooks and Benco. Yorks giving themselves a glimpse of salvation. But mainly benefiting from runs on the board which augurs well.
