Tough start for Yorks against the champions. Can't see Yorkshire troubling the title candidates this year and a good season would be staying up. And to start the season, Willey, Coad and Plunkett are unavailable or injured (as well as Root and Bairstow who will miss the first two games- Cook can't play for Essex). Plunkett and WIlley are in the IPL. Plunkett seems to be chronically injured. Rashid is sitting out first class cricket. Bresnan is in his twilight years as a bowler.

Andrew Gale says Harry Brook, the U19 captain will probably play in the middle order with Pujara and ZBGB. There's unlikely to be a spinner. I guess Lyth and Lees will open. Tim will bat at seven, then Hodd. Leaning perhaps at six, if Kohler-Cadmore is just a limited overs signing. No Sidebottom. No mention that Jack Brooks is injured, so him, Patterson and one other. Maybe Fisher.

Preparation has been undermined by wet weather.

Read on another thread that Fisher is also injured. The fact that the Univ. game was called off so early suggests the groundstaff were unable to get Headingley ready-and it's never stopped raining since.

seemingly Patterson broke a finger on the eve of the first match, which is unlikely to help matters

Usually a key bowler early doors.

Coad is also out.

So Waite, Shaw, Brooks and Tim left. Doesn't look frightening.

Not many runs being scored across the country. About 250 looking like it would be a good score.

pretty sure there must be a link between england being so crap at batting and more county championship games starting this early in april.
although in the bright side next week we might get our usual summer for the year for a week.
going to be hotter than greece next week.

Maybe the ECB should knock up an impromptu T20 tournament if the weather is going to be nice. First class cricket is meant to be played in the cold and wet.
