Graves petulant? - surely not

If Graves cant work with Surrey, then surely the answer is he isnt fit for his job, not that you change a plan to include ridiculous ideas to avoid dealing with them? Christ, this is a shambles isnt it.

How can you not use the Oval. :facepalm

Not long for the ECB to vote for a new chairman, hopefully Colin is a man of his word and does not apply for a 2nd term.

Dobell suggesting a lot of the 'star' overseas players might be either very short term signings or ones not wanted elsewhere.
England players likely to play 3 games at the most and as an added bonus the best white ball cricketers in England are unlikely to be playing any 50 over domestic cricket.

He was asked at a recent meeting with County chairmen about this and wouldn't give such an assurance. Whilst it's difficult to envisage that he would be re-elected,it will be equally difficult to find anyone who would volunteer to succeed him given the poisoned chalice that they would inherit.

Latest update from The Times is that the Oval will host games. Graves' desire to sideline the ground was opposed by the management board of the new competition , the broadcasters and sponsors. Legal advice also cautioned against it!
So it does appear Graves was on his own.

So FCG confirmed. Surely he can't now stand for re-election.

The article mentions that " a number of county officials " also complained to the ECB citing a critical report last year that had accused the ECB of various failings including overuse of informal process and an absence of trust. The county officials felt that , by being kept in the dark over the Surrey saga, the failings detailed in that report are still an issue.

So it definitely sounds as if Graves has lost support throughout the system. Interesting that the ECB are claiming that the 17-1 vote by the counties in favour of this new competition means it has almost total support. The real explanation surely is that Surrey are the only county who can afford to stand up to the ECB and register disapproval.
I see Michael Vaughn expressed support both for the competiton in general and Graves' actions re Surrey - he definitely must be after a job!

Bullying and bribery are the main operating tools of ECB. £1.3m to each county was nothing more than a bribe, bullying counties into agreeing to give it the go ahead.
More than likely Vaughan has his eye on the red ball assistant coach position so speaking in favour of 100 will enhance his chances.

The new tournament is already a great success according to Tom Harrison.
It's optimised short-form cricket," said Harrison.
"
We're getting people to re-appraise cricket in terms of their perceptions of what the game means to them, and ultimately addressing the complexity of cricket - presenting it in a simple way."

After the shambolic launch yesterday https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/ ... rt-cricket
The Times is reporting that there's only going to be one semi-final - the team finishing in first place goes to the final with the 2nd and 3rd placed teams playing a semi-final on the same day.
Apparently it's because the BBC don't want finals day to last all day and also because of concerns that the target audience won't have the attention span to concentrate for 3 matches in a day.
Meanwhile Edgbaston has apparently sold out tickets for T20 Finals Day in record time.

Would not mind knowing what font the ECB used for The Hundred, I believe it's a stock one just like the photos

It looks like it. Incredibly shoddy and pretty incompetent to botch the launch of a competition that had already generated almost universal condemnation.
George Dobell likened it to the ill-fated 90's BBC soap El Dorado where negative publicity in the months leading up to broadcast was impossible to overcome and the show was a short-lived but very expensive flop.
