captaincolly wrote:Article in The Times today claims that the ECB want to punish Surrey, who voted in favour of a new competition but against the 100 ball format, by not using the Oval as a host ground. Apparently the desire for retribution comes from Colin Graves who was " infuriated" by Surrey objecting to the new format.
If Graves gets his way it would have an impact on Kent who were going to joint manage the Oval franchise.
Surrey are probably the one county who can afford to snub the ECB. The same article mentions that 1/6 of all domestic T20 matches last summer were sold at the Oval.

Does Graves not know how many women and kids live in South London? !?!

Michael Vaughn tweeted approvingly about the idea of abandoning the Oval! Something along the lines of clubs who don't fully support the new venture should not be hosting games.

So us cricket fans have to suffer the tripe that is the 100 on the grounds it is all about attracting new people.....

But instead of hosting games in the most popular venue in the country, with the most success and attendances, in one of the worlds most dense urban agglomerations..... we instead move it to a sleepy town in Essex that pretty much no one wants to go to!

Make sense does it.

I keep on reading that the 100 has "polarised fans".....

I havent read a single person who backs it. Does anyone here? Far from polarised, I think everyone thinks its a load of *****

Makes sense to the ECB and to no one else.

Same. I can't remember reading any expression of support and when the idea of a new competition ever came up in conversations I've had at the Riverside no one supported it- quite the opposite, the idea was unanimously hated!

I thought it had its merits at first, but that was when I could see a chance for county cricket to divorce itself from the broadcasters and the bean counters wishes for money to be played in the summer rather than cricket.

The 2019 fixtures are pretty much what i thought the 100 would bring to the county season, but that notion has been thoroughly scotched by the ECB who actually intend to use the 100 to further marginalise county cricket.

Now that that has been explained to me, my opinion is now that the 100 offers nothing.... nothing at all... or at least nothing of value to anyone who follows cricket.

Long term it seems that the plan is force all county cricket into the football season, leaving only the 100 being played in the football off-season

I'm beginning to believe that the problems are not so much FTECB but solely with FCG.
