I don't mind innovation of this sort, tbh. It won't be able to compete with the IPL if the format remains the same, but it might in a new format. The acid test of success (apart from the money that sponsors are prepared to cough up) might be whether the IPL adopts the format...... that would be a coup

Or even working out a bowlers economy rate, as it is based on runs per 6 ball over.

I thought this deserves its own thread.

I believe the BBC will have the rights to this.

of course, the rationale behind the 100 balls is to finish the game in 3 hours, yet when T20 first appeared the games were always finished within 3 hours..... the final over had to have been started 75 mins into an innings with a short turnaround in between (back then players ran off the pitch when they were out and the incoming batsmen ran on, to avoid 6 run penalties for starting that final over late), so if T20 has become too long, then it is entirely the fault of the administrators for allowing it to happen in the first place

Apparently they're now considering allowing 3 different bowlers to bowl the 10 ball over so a captain could replace someone mid-over who is getting smashed around. According to The Telegraph the ECB may decide against it not because it's a ridiculous idea but because changing bowlers mid-over could slow the over rate down when the idea of a 16 over game is to reduce the playing time!

According to The Times it will be a single 10 ball over that can be bowled at any stage during the innings.
The new tournament is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2020 and will have innings made up of 15 traditional six-ball overs and one ten-ball over that could be bowled at any point. The proposed idea would result in matches being completed about 40 minutes faster than T20 matches, which, if they go the distance, last 40 balls longer.

It is ironic - or is it? - that in 2020, the ECB will be working doing away with 2020 cricket.

That would be funny! And quite likely given its the ECB we are dealing with.

even the bank of England has spotted the symmetry and is introducing new 20's in 2020

perhaps Mark Carney will have to think about the introduction of a £100 note instead?

I was considering this while watching some of the BBL this season past. Besides the rest of the batting team being in the "dugout" on the boundary line, and the next couple of batters being padded up, all speed-up changes have gone put the window.

The last over takes up to ten minutes to deliver as it is, imagine if it becomes a ten ball last 'over' that up to three bowlers can deliver - that could take half an hour.

Interesting to say Andrew Strauss wants to target kids and their mums for this 100 ball competition.

One would think evening starts are inappropriate for this target audience because the kids and hard working fathers will be wanting their tea. Dirt cheap tickets might be one idea to attract an crowd, but how much will it costs to eat at the venues? The extra costs do add up significantly, especially when some venues are not conveniently located.

Either matches will start at 12noon (not ideal for TV) or 7.45pm (not ideal for families). This 100 ball proposal is becoming very desperate by the powers above.
