Yorkshire might have taken the scenic route to the knockout rounds, but i'm pleased they did. Winning close matches tells you more about a team than a 360:180 slog fest. In the last three games, one player took ownership of getting Yorkshire over the line whether it was Matt Fisher, David Willey or Jonny Tattersall.

What was more impressive is Jonny Tattersall coming in to bat, a huge unknown but took so much pressure off Gary Ballance. His front foot footwork against spin and rapid running between the wickets without the need to slog prevented the required run rate going above 7rpo and went below 6rpo in Powerplay 3, on a pitch which was good for spin for the 2nd innings.

Even without the England players I feel Yorkshire have a chance against Essex. The top six of Lyth, TKC, Brook, Ballance, Leaning and Tattersall looks okay. Some lower order hitting from Bresnan and Fisher. Patterson pace off the ball at Chelmsford will be very handy. It's whether Yorkshire go with two spinners in Rafiq and Carver or one plus Coad.

Since the 1st Australia ODI is at the Kia Oval, there is an argument for Rashid to play for Yorkshire with him being a spinner. Reading David Willey's latest interview, he is wanting to be involved in the knockout rounds and would be a huge boost both bat and ball.

Willey might not be a certainty for the ODIs.

Stokes is currently injured and was the one who (mysteriously) replaced Willey in the winter ODIs, so I expect Willey to come straight back into the England XI.

Even if Willey does play the 1st ODI, he could still feature against Essex considering the lack of cricket he has played in spring. White ball England players should be allowed to play in the One Day Cup Knockouts if fully fit, playing in a one off pressure cooker situation is better than in a meaningless ODI series.

But all in vain as Azeem Rafiq hits the winning runs and Yorkshire win by 1 wicket with 2 balls to spare

Limbs, flatcaps, Yorkshire chants everywhere

Lets just say I am inspired after Yorkshire pulled off three tight wins out of the hat to get to Chelmsford

Matty Fishe's lower order slogging to victory against Derbyshire, David Willey batting and bowling Yorkshire to victory in the Roses and an unknown Jonny Tattersall coming to bat in a pressure situation and guided Yorkshire home in unorthodox fashion. None of this smashing balls out of the ground - used his feet against spin, tip and run on good deliveries, placed the bad balls for four and sprinted between the wicket like a whippet.

Essex might be favourites, but so were Yorkshire against Durham in 2016 Twenty20 Finals Day and look how that turned out. I've been round the block spectator wise long enough to know nothing goes to plan in one-off matches and all it takes is one individual to grab the game by the balls.

Good recovery from Notts, who seem to have Jake Ball available. I thought he was with England, like Plunkett and Willey.

Billings also playing in the match so the ECB must have allowed the squad members who missed out yesterday to play. No Broad for Notts though which seems odd unless he's injured.
