Trouble is we can't blame Jon Lewis anymore.

For what it's worth...... we keep losing matches and we always seem to be 100 runs short of perhaps changing that. It's only 100 match runs that we need to find to become just a little bit more competitive. That's 8 batsmen across 2 innings finding an extra 12 or 13 runs each. Given that 8 batsmen scored nought in this match, 12 or 13 runs each feels achievable without radical change. Holding crucial catches would help too
All right we won't finish top half of the table with an extra 100 runs, and we probably won't play out any draws with 100 runs either, but we might not go a whole season without a win and atm that feels like a starting point... journey of a thousand miles and all that, so I probably shouldn't get too disheartened, but should get more realistic.... we are county cricket's whipping boys again... we've been there before, so we can turn things around over the next few years.
Back to basics..... a core of young local talent supplemented with experienced county pro's to help them become more competitive while they develop their game. At the moment the development part is mainly batting, and for that it would probably be helpful to have a batting coach. First priority
We are going to have to bring Will Smith back in too, even if it's for his experience alone. Whether he's good enough any more remains to be seen, but he has always been excellent in the field, so we might drop fewer catches from key positions, and he's another bowling option when lower order partnerships start to develop
Batting coach! Lets hope someone's listening

has all the makings of a long match

"Make no bones about it, the guys in the dressing room are hurting really badly. In some ways it's quite good that we have 10 days until the next first-team game to clear their heads and regroup to get a method to compete in the next four-day game against Derbyshire."
