I think it'll have to be Kolpaks. Or maybe get the lead high performance coach to come out of retirement!
I'd bring back Smith for the next game, there's a chance he might get some runs. Not much of one but still a chance!

6 wicket defeat! Is that also 6 CC defeats in a row?

I'm a bit calmer now, than I was yesterday. Thinking a bit more rationally

For what it's worth...... we keep losing matches and we always seem to be 100 runs short of perhaps changing that. It's only 100 match runs that we need to find to become just a little bit more competitive. That's 8 batsmen across 2 innings finding an extra 12 or 13 runs each. Given that 8 batsmen scored nought in this match, 12 or 13 runs each feels achievable without radical change. Holding crucial catches would help too

All right we won't finish top half of the table with an extra 100 runs, and we probably won't play out any draws with 100 runs either, but we might not go a whole season without a win and atm that feels like a starting point... journey of a thousand miles and all that, so I probably shouldn't get too disheartened, but should get more realistic.... we are county cricket's whipping boys again... we've been there before, so we can turn things around over the next few years.

Back to basics..... a core of young local talent supplemented with experienced county pro's to help them become more competitive while they develop their game. At the moment the development part is mainly batting, and for that it would probably be helpful to have a batting coach. First priority

We are going to have to bring Will Smith back in too, even if it's for his experience alone. Whether he's good enough any more remains to be seen, but he has always been excellent in the field, so we might drop fewer catches from key positions, and he's another bowling option when lower order partnerships start to develop

Batting coach! Lets hope someone's listening

Agreed. The games have been fairly closely fought and , as you say , 100 more runs across the two innings may well have been enough.
Smith must come in.
Amazingly they have got a batting coach - Steve Chapman. He's either hopeless or( more likely imo) has an impossible task because any side without at least 2 or 3 established batsmen has no chance of batting properly. If we hadn't brought in Hussey, Benks, DiVenuto we would have been this bad for the last decade. It'll never work unless they can find some genuine quality.
The other thing they should change is Frankin's job title - ' lead high performance coach' is a moniker that almost invites ridicule. Have to feel for him though because he's in a hopeless position - if he comes out and expresses confidence in the lineup he'll either be being economical with the truth or completely delusional ...but he can't say " They're all hopeless"

And I think the even worse news is that most if the teams we've played so far have been pretty poor - Gloucs have been in the second division for years!

I think he's also doubling up as the spin bowling coach! Reminds me of Bob Willis talking about "so-called allrounders."
I was also thinking about the possibility of Onions doing an Ottis Gibson with 10 wickets in an innings when we face Lancs ...but he can't do it...because Jimmy will be bowling at the other end!

I think we should only bowl one ball a day at our batsmen in nets practice..... and see how many days it takes them to survive it.

Derby up next. I think the Lancs game is next month so Anderson will almost certainly be playing. And so will Jennings.

From cricinfo.

Franklin said: "It has certainly been a tough start. Four games and four losses. It is what it is and we have 10 more games to try to show improvement and progress in this format of the game.

"Make no bones about it, the guys in the dressing room are hurting really badly. In some ways it's quite good that we have 10 days until the next first-team game to clear their heads and regroup to get a method to compete in the next four-day game against Derbyshire."

All this talk about competing, improving and progression sounds to me like a diplomatic way of saying he doesn't expect to win games!
Hoping to be competitive against Derby isn't exactly a high benchmark!

And there's an interview from the club where Franklin seems to have Jon Lewis's script from last year - a combination of cliches and gobbledygook about players talking ownership of their games. He then says it won't necessarily be the same staying X1 in the next game! I should hope not.

If everyone in your XI (based on this lineup) scores their average, you’d score 278.

I’m not sure what to make of that.
