Seemingly Steel got out to the reverse sweep straight into the hands of the fielder, last night

add that to his dismissal against Lancs where he tried the helicopter shot.......I have no idea what these shots are called, but it might have been that, I mean who can possibly tell... anyway he extravagantly spooned the ball into the waiting hands of the keeper

As far as I can tell, when he plays sensible cricket shots he scores runs, when he plays trendy, modern day, oooh, aaah shots... he gets himself out

Now.... there may be a solution to these modes of dismissal, if only I had the wit to see it

Hopefully batting with Short will help him mature as a batsman. Don't think D'Arcy plays too many outrageous shots, just seems to be able to time the ball well and hit it between fielders.
No doubt he'll get out tomorrow to a crazy shot now I've said that - weather permitting!

T20 and you have to improvise so, at times, when it doesn't come off, you look a little foolish. He's got to have developed by partnering Short. Also think we should show more faith in his bowling.
Hope also he's included in the CC side-batting middle order, not opening.

prospect of play hotline doesn't seem too confident

I still think we could beat Notts at home, given the opportunity. Very different to playing them at TB.... I'd much prefer that one to be the rained off game

all true, but improvisation should be used when batting is getting bogged down, not after two dot balls or when your gun player has just gotten out after a century opening partnership and the team is in a position of strength. Steel should have anchored everything and tried to bat through to the end, letting the new batsmen risk their wickets trying to up the run rate.

I am, of course, being particularly harsh on him, but that's because I think he could be a really good player for us over the coming years, assuming Lancs/Notts/Surrey (delete as appropriate) don't lure him away.

Working with the Dame will be very worthwhile for his development.

I think he will play in the CC match with Leics, but I'm certain he'll be asked to open with Lees. His approach to opening in the one day cup, suggests he may have the temperament to tough it out in the first 20 overs.... as long as T20 mode doesn't kick in and he remembers he doesn't have to reverse sweep or helicopter/ramp/spoon if he doesn't score in an over

and if we do get off to a rotten start against Leics then the prospect of a middle order comprising Handscomb, Eckersley and Raine is quite reassuring

I see Moeen Ali isn't playing for Worcestershire today. They are our opponents on Thursday night so hopefully he'll miss that one as well. Sky commentators speculating he might have a week or two away from the game.

He'll probably feel rejuvenated after a few days off and be raring to go on Thursday!
Surely not though, unless his absence today is nothing to do with his struggles with England he will presumably want to have more than one match off.

much has been made over the WC hangover for the players, but that must surely be worse if you were one of the players who struggled to make an impact and ended up missing out on the latter stages. Let the lad have a couple of weeks off! no need to trouble us up here
