and yet... Rimmer's figures are only marginally better than Matt Salisbury's.....

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine ... tournament

it's just that Salisbury was a part of the 4 match losing streak when, as a team, we couldn't score any runs and Rimmer was part of the 6 match unbeaten streak once we could

And Rimmer can bat, of course

and have a look at the number of ducks on those batting stats and then see how many of them were from Eckersley

Trevaskis has been used very sparingly as a bowler in the CC with his batting no more than adequate although I think he has potential but Steel has earned the right for an opportunity in that role.
I'd go

Lees
Robson
Harte
Handscomb
Burnham
Steel S
Eckersley
Raine
Rimmington
Carse/Potts
Rushworth

It has the makings of a pretty good - division 2 - side. And a lot of the players are young and clearly full of potential.
Regardless of what happens for the rest of this season I think there are grounds for optimism provided we can bring in a couple of experienced batsmen.

That's an essential. Impossible to be a competitive outfit with the recently trimmed squad. There's actually a minimum salary cap and given the recent departures I would suspect we'll be below that limit when their current contracts expire.

I'd forgotten abour the minimum cap. The signings from Lees onwards suggests finances in better order and there's the World Cup money and the lifting of our salary cap. All that points to players being released to make way for new signings but are things ever that simple at Durham?

Worcestershire have confirmed Mooen Ali is taking a " short break." Don't think they've said how short but it must confirm he won't play against us on Thursday.

Article I read says he's playing v N'hants next Sunday in the CC.
I always say that everybody's right.

Westoelad was right then in thinking he'd sit out the week of T20 and return for the CC.
Forecast looks good for Thursday evening so it's just a question of whether D'Arcy Short Durham can beat Worcestershire.
And then the lead high performance coach can deal with the small matter of who is going to captain the Championship side. Eckersley would be my choice.

All stars go free , decent forecast,so should be a decent gate on Thursday. TV game at Headingley on Friday looks a wash out.
Forgot we need a captain for the CC. Agree, Eckersley looks the logical choice.

And tickets valid for Thursday from the washout on Sunday so that might help get a few more in.

I'd forgotten we were playing on Thursday

Derby have easily beaten Worcs tonight

Wessells scored 1 (bet he scores more than that on Thursday) and Guppy scored 45 at just over a run a ball rather than the SR of 876 that he scored against us at New Road.... or at least the half of it that the groundsman marked out

We must be getting pretty close to every game being a must win if we want to qualify? I'm fairly relaxed about it, would be nice to get to the QF's but it won't be too annoying if we don't- unless we do something stupid and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in a decisive match!

Apart from the outstanding Lancs team all other teams are much of a muchness with any team beating another on their day. The biggest factor on qualifying will be the number of washouts you suffer. This week it already looks as if N'hants v Lancs and York's v Durham will be washout s but Durham v Warms will go ahead. York's and Nhants will then have already suffered 4 washouts, that's a big handicap to overcome.

It is 4 points though, which can be very important if you win a decent chunk of the matches you actually do play.

Sussex suffered 4 washouts on route to finals day, via a thumping of us in the QFs last year.

Like the capt, I'm pretty sanguine about T20 QF's. As long as we have a good home campaign, and the crowds roll in to watch it I'm usually quite happy. Good to get a home QF of course, because that drags more people in (people who may be inspired to buy a season ticket next year), but I'm not convinced finishing top 2 is a realistic goal for this season.
