50 for Taylor, and he's keeping KLein well away from the strike

Taylor gone.

Good wicket to get because he might have lifted them to somewhere near 250 if he'd batted through

Sun is out and nothing untoward happening with the pitch so I'm sure our top 3 will settle down and build their usual solid platform. :scared
213/8 with just under 3 overs left.

Career best for Taylor! That's according to Martin Emmerson who also says he's not sure if their score is anywhere near enough. That suggests to me he thinks it definitely isn't but is all too aware of our batting frailties.

They're at it again! 7/1 with Clark gone early again.

I'll look more closely on Friday

668 said she saw a sleeping bag in the crowd and wondered if that was corkers

got to be a die hard if you take a sleeping bag to matches. Would make a good protest about the way the CC is being scheduled if it was properly co-ordinated around the country, although it would probably require a lot of research at the library cross checking membership details and telephone numbers from registers, electoral rolls, phone books and such like.......... If only there was some other global medium to organise something like that...... :hmmm

Corkers does not go to the 1 dayers now. I kept him up to date by text. He was however fully in a sleeping bag during the saturday of the Sussex match . We both sat in the upper tier of the county stand on Friday ( and froze despite the sleeping bag protection.)

Was 668 at the Sussex game or the 1 day game on Wed ? I was there on Wed too but didn't see her even though I walked around the ground .

Thought Burnham was a lot better today ( Friday) but despite good knocks on both days from Scott Steel he seems to have a red mist moment and gave his wicket away on both occasion. It is neverless very encouraging to see yet another Academy product step up a grade. A few more innings will see him in the CC team .

Yep. A shame for Steel to get starts and then go but as you say he has looked very promising.
Clark & Lees need runs, early days of course but 2 down almost straight im both games isn't ideal!

captaincolly wrote: interesting info that the pitch for this game and Friday's is an artificial one - it gets cut and rolled but is still artificial being used by the FTECB as an experiment. Assuming the experiment is being repeated around the country it might be a reason why there were a lot of similar(ish) scores in the mid-300's in the first innings of games today. Decent weather and similar pitches.

Is it not a "drop in" pitch rather than artificial one if it can be cut and rolled?

Could have been a drop in but the info was second hand - the source being someone in the know at the Durham Cricket Board. It was described as artificial but the 'cuting and rolling'bit suggests it is more like a drop in They have now used it twice and I'm told it will be used again for the next home game. I did check that it not was not 1st April when I was told.

Whatever it is, it certainly suits Durham and Bancroft in particular. Wonder if the reason Bancroft was late in arriving was because he humped it over in his luggage? :stupid.w
What does surprise me is that there's been no mention of it afaik in the media. No mention today for example from Nasser or Athers on Sky commentary-surely they'd be discussing something as novel and contentious as that.

it looked a completely different colour today, so I assumed we were back to a normal grass pitch

besides... aren't drop in pitches great big unwieldy affairs requiring great big holes?

I was impressed with Steel today, despite the brain fade that got him out. He dug in hard at the start and didn't seem to get frustrated at being consistently unable to get the ball past the point fielder when facing Klein. Worked his way into the game and became more and more fluent. He hit 3 glorious straight drives to the boundary which were as sweetly struck as you could wish to see. Looks promising. Whether his slow starting will work if we are chasing 350+ remains to be seen. He must have faced 20 odd balls to get to 2. In fairness, Klein and Taylor were by some margin Leicester's best bowlers, so perhaps it was always the plan to see them off, because chasing a smallish target we had all the time in the world to do that. Once the change bowlers came on our RR improved markedly and immediately. I think Klein was on 2-6 at the end of his first 5 overs and we were on 24-2 after the first 10 over PP

Bancroft looked completely untroubled by the bowling. 'Imperious' is perhaps the only word to describe his batting. There was one big appeal for lbw, and Leics appealed long and loud for it, but it smacked more of desperation than anything else.

Richo looked good value for his 39, patiently feeding the strike back to Bangers. Got out lbw just as he was starting to wind up, but he'd looked very comfortable prior to that

just realised that we are top of the table, with Yorks only managing to tie their game

A couple of tough away fixtures coming up, but finishing bottom last year with only a couple of wins feels a long time ago
