An upset seems in the offing in the Sri Lankan long form competition as bottom team Galle are in the driving seat against second in the table Bloomfield.

Galle have their captain Harsha Vithana to thank for their first innings total of 219, with the veteran falling on 98.

Galle then managed to reduce Bloomfield to 43-2 in the first 22 overs of their first innings.

The upset is still on.

Bloomfield managed only a further 85 runs before capitulating to 128 all out. A deficit of 91.

The lead was then further stretched - opener Sameen Kandanearachchi out on a pacy 43 ball half century to set the tone for Galle. They stand overnight on 113-4 - a lead of 104.

A declaration before lunch could see a maiden win for the season for the bottom team in the table.

It was Galle who seemed in the driving seat for the first two days of this match and they will feel hard done by that time took a first victory of the season away from them. After putting 216 runs on the board in the second innings, they had a 307 run lead. They then proceeded to put Bloomfield to the sword - mostly thanks to extraordinary figures of 8-80 for Suraj Randiv. By the time that stumps were drawn, Galle needed just one more wicket with 102 runs needed.

A moral victory if not one on the board.

Today's most eye-catching match was between the Sri Lankan Navy and Kurunegela.

The Sailors jetted off to a total of 223 but were anchored down by 4-29 by Dinushka Malan.

Kurunegala's maiden voyage started with clear waters as they navigated themselves to 104-3.

Sri Lanka Navy sunk Kurunegala's first innings for a measly 199 as Savindu Peiris scoped out his adversaries for a six wicket haul.

SLN did not take to their second innings like a duck to water and soon found themselves in dire straits. They finished the day on 189-8 - a lead of 213. It is not beyond the realms of possibility that Kurunegala might overcome that on the final day.

The last day of this match turned into something of a cracker - but Sri Lanka Navy followed through for the Victory - although Kurunegala got within 14 runs of an upset.

HGK Dilshan got 4 key middle order wickets to blow holes in the Kurunegala charge and help SLN claim the win.

The victory sees SLN sail above Kurunegala into seventh on the table.

Been keeping an eye on the,ultimately drawn match, between the Police and Bloomfield today.

The stand out performance was from Sachin Jayawardena who got his highest ever score of 165 in the first innings.

Must be quite a burden to have those two names but he lived up to their elegant heritage in this fixture.

Been in a bit quiet in this league for a while now but a bit of an upset on the cards with bottom of the league Kalutara handing it to top of the table Bloomfield.

Kalutara declared on 406-9 on Day Two to have a chance at unsettling Bloomfield before lunch. This is a plan that came to pass when they were 12/1 at the break. Thanks to a fivefer from Pasindu Madushan they reached stumps on 186-8 - still 220 runs behind Kalutara.

The match ended in a draw despite both teams going big guns on a final day where 460 runs were scored.

Bloomfield finished their first innings with a deficit of 198 beofore Kalutara fired off 319 in 61 overs - largely down to Akeel Inham who scored his second hundred of the match in 108 balls.

Bloomfield had 518 runs to chase and played the final 19 overs like a T20 - finishing on 116-1.

The draw and the high run rate sees Kalutara off the bottom of the table while Bloomfield remain top.

Top of the table tussle between Lankan and Bloomfield this week and it is Lankan who have the edge.

After a first innings total of 410, Bloomfield are 296-6 at stumps on Day 2 with Kasun Abeyrathne's 70 being Bloomfield's highest score.

Despite the mammoth first innings score, the draw is the most likely result here.

The draw was odds on from the get go here but Sanjula Abeywickreme's unbeaten 113 helped Lankan to the batting bonus point they needed to stay top of the table.

They declared on 248 with 16 overs left in the day and Bloomfield tootled to 116-3 before hands were shaken.

Suminda Lakshan has taken off for Sri Lanka Air Force against Kalutara this week.

The 22-year-old soared to a top score of 153 in the first innings before blitzing Kalutara's batsmen today with 4 wickets.

Kalutara are 82 runs behind with 3 wickets remaining.

Suminda Lakshan was the boy again but fell 19 runs short of an historic duo of a double century and a five-fer.

The game was a draw leaving Kalutara at the foot of the table and Sri Lanka Air Force 3rd from bottom.

Into the fourth round of this year's tournament and top of the table Police Sports Club's game with Kurungela Youth Club kicks off the round.

The boys in blue put up 204 in their first innings with Dulash Udayanga's 77 being the largest of two scores over 50 for the batting side. In reply Kurungela are 77-3.

Udayanga turned out for Sheriff Hutton Bridge Cricket Club in Yorkshire last Summer.

The Police are well on the way to their third victory in four matches as they bowled out Kurunegala for 161 and then extending their lead to 254 at stumps on the end of Day Two.

Despite the lacklustre performance from his batsmen, Navin Kavikara's fourfer for Kurunegala kept his side within touching distance as the boys in blue. have only four batsmen left in the hutch for Day Three.

Kavikara played for Yorkshire club Sessay for the last two seasons and is turning it on in Colombo in the same way as he did in York.
