Woody not selected for the first ODI -v- Pakistan.

Is there a risk he may lose out on a WC spot to Jofra 'he's new and played well in one T20, so we in the media box all think he's the bees knees' Archer?

It would suit us if Woody didn't get a game in this series, because then the only way he can get any match fitness ahead of the WC would be to play a few CC matches for us. Typical, given that England like to micro-manage everything, that the only 2 list A matches they would allow him to play in were both rained off, so he risks going into a WC with no or very little practice. That would be handy. One of the journalists said yesterday that he wouldn't be "risked" for today's game. Seems odd if that's the case because he was playing at Headingley the other day so must be fit? Morgan said at the toss they're going to rotate players over the 5 games - I'd have thought they'd want Wood to prove his fitness by playing several games in a row, we will see if it happens.

Wood was declared fit to"play a full part" in our last 2 RL50 fixtures according to an ECG statement so I fully expect him to play in the majority of the games v Pakistan. If he doesn't there's no way he can prove his fitness for the world cup as the final squad has to be declared by May 23rd. There's no way I'd select him for a championship fixture until he's proved his fitness(remember Cheltenham) and that'll mean playing in the stiffs. So be it.

I agree. These ODI's should be his fitness test - he's got Archer breathing down his neck and must be vulnerable given his injury record.

Coughlin seeing a specialist about his latest hamstring injury. Naturally it's not just a run of the mill injury and he faces a lengthy layoff.

Still no sign of Wood in England colours. He's not playing today.

Ian Ward says he spoke to Woody this morning who told him he was fully fit. I might be missing something obvious but if there are no injury issues, why is he not playing? Atherton pointed out he hasn't bowled since March!

Pretty ominous for Woody this omission particularly on this pitch where a go-to bowler like him is a must have. Can only assume he hasn't been able to ramp it up to full pace in practice. He's no shoo in for our CC side imo-prefer Potts on his RL50 form.

Yep. Can't just pick a bowler for a 4 day match who hasn't had any match practice for weeks - especially one with a terrible injury record.

Aye, I've always considered Key himself to be a bit of a "banker" ever since he whinged about a Riverside pitch some years back.
