I think we would all agree with Franklin's assessment

I think we've all been saying the same thing for the last month

I confess, I'm quite hopeful for the close season... if that doesn't sound too daft

Hopefully he means a better financial state so both recruitment and ground developments.

I agree. Sound analysis by Franklin and it's just a case of seeing if the words are backed up by action. The batting in the current squad will never be good enough but a couple of good signings and we should do well next year.

I didn't want to tempt fate during the season but is it just coincidence that since the new coaching regime came in place we've gone a full season without any major injuries to our fast bowlers?

Could well be. The walking wounded seem to have made a recovery - apart from Woody but we can blame England for that!
Can't find any mention of a date for the rescheduled Forum - maybe they're not going to bother with it!

The exact words were "a members event will be organised in due course" -maybe referring to the Christmas dinner so I'm not sure that there'll be a forum as such. However Franklin's reference to behind the scenes strengthening in the context of the playing side can only mean playing or coaching recruitment .
Good news for Woody and all other aspiring England bowlers is that, according to the Mail, Shine is being dispensed with.

You could well be right sbout the forum, once the season is over players and staff tend to scatter.
Eccellent news about Shine.
There was a story in The Sunday Times hinting that Ravi Bopara has fallen out with the Essex management and might be moving on. He'd be good but if he does leave I can't see him coming up here!

Good player as he is, a Bopara is not a priority imo. Interesting Malan has relinquished the Middlesex captaincy. If rumours are true about him leaving, I suspect working with Franklin would appeal more than working with Gale.

Yep. It'll be interesting to see what happens with him.

if Malan signed for us, England would call him up immediately and then make him rest for the entirety of months with an 'R' in it

Summary of the season but clearly made by a study of scorecards by someone who clearly didn't watch many games. Harsh on both Burnham and Bancroft.

And at the start of the season Bancroft was probably the only batsman certain of his place. Once they ruled out Rushy and Lees and Raine didn't want the job Bangers was the only option.
Even if that wasn't the case I still think he'd have been the right man - it's an inexperienced side so an international player is likely to make the best captain.
