It's BJ Watling. Excellent batsman, will be tough though for him to make an immediate impact but that would apply to anyone coming in for a couple of games.

All credit for getting a replacement so quickly. Short term replacements haven't usually been successful but New Zealand conditions are as near as you get to English.

Yep. Wonder if Latham recommended him. Presumably Tom was not available himself.

another wicket keeper. That's 3 this season. Not sure how much cricket he will have had, but at least we are getting a look at players who may play a part for us in the future

Yeah. Always a possibility of getting one back for a longer stint.

pleased to see that he has been playing recently in the 2 test series in SL. 3 innings....... 1, 77, 105, so it seems he's seeing the ball well enough. SL is a hard place to score runs normally

maybe JJB put in a word? :halo:

Presumably Ashwin won't want to go back to Notts.

Ashwin will probably be happy to play for anyone who can pay him his wedge

the days of overseas players associating themselves with certain counties have long gone.... which is a shame, really. There was a charm about the great West Indian players, in particular, returning year after year to play for their adoptive county

Jeetan Patel is probably the nearest anyone comes to those players, these days. Remarkable loyalty, presumably well remunerated, but worth every penny. Tends to be the Kolpaks these days

Similar article appeared in Northern Echo so clearly a press release from DCCC. It's end of season timing suggests to me that we won't be seeing the hoped for major signings.

I don't like the sound of that! We've got a fine record of producing bowlers but only a handful of batsmen have come up through the ranks and established themselves - and the likes of Rocky and Colly took years to find their feet.
Bancroft, Lees and Eckersley have been the standout batsmen this year - all brought in!

Interesting snippet from cricinfo:

If one eye is on the field, the other must be on the ledgers. The latest accounts, up to the end of September 2018, were lodged with Companies House recently and reveal an overall loss for the year of £1,136,418. This against a profit of £2,227,951 for 2017, when they received £2 million from the ECB for agreeing not to apply to stage Test cricket for the foreseeable future.

World Cup and another - presumably- fairly lucrative T20 season should surely see an improvement.

Profits from the World Cup went to ICC who staged the event but Durham got a staging fee of circa £100k. I recall mention of a substantial repayment to DCC of the loan. I don't understand Balance sheets but clearly we've dispensed with 5 players already this season so should have funding for substantial recruitment.
