oh no! :o

incoming captain, Billy Godleman :scared

No, it's not Cricket Captain 2020, this is real life DCCC.
I mentioned earlier we currently have only 15 full time players which will be a maximum of 12 next season with Bancroft, Rimmington and Burnham,at least, out of contract.

I wonder - if he doesn't score runs in the Ashes - whether Bancroft would come back next year? For purely selfish reasons another spell out of international cricket would be good, provided we can get him back here. No real room for sentiment in pro sport but I wonder if he might be grateful we gave him the chance to captain and re-establish himself. If he does then I think he'd come back.

I'm trying not to imagine signing Gale as head coach/lead performance thingy, Godleman as capt, and Overton C as strike bowler

it would make us about as charmless a cricket team as it's possible to get

It's hard to think of a lead performance thingy less charismatic than our current occupant.

Borthwick's turn in this week's CricketPaper to select his Dream XI. It includes Harmi. " I used to hate facing him in the nets, especially once when we'd just beaten the Magpies and I went in wearing my Mackem top".

2 day friendly started this morning against Notts- Cameron Steel is opening the batting. Wonder if that's an indicator he'll be opening on Sunday against Leicestershire?

And he's out for6. Perhaps more significant in Scott is batting 5. Angus Robson, ex-Leics,has been trialing and also opening?
Strong 2nd XI!

Strong 2nd XI!

I was wondering who the other opener was. Think he might be a decent player.

Robson out to Coughlin for 32!

First class average in the early 30's but I have a feeling he might be useful or at least worth a look at in the first team.

1000 runs in both his 1st 2 seasons indicates ability but then left Leics after a disagreement with DeBruyn and appears to have lost his way. That's a 1st XI standard Notts attack. Nothing to be lost by giving him a run out with the 1st in at least a few of the remaining games.

I agree. Didn't know he had two 1000 run seasons. Doing it once could be a fluke but twice must mean he can bat.
Scott Steel with 50 in the game, he must be in line now for a Championship debut.

Squad for the Leicestershire game should be out today and we will find out who has been unlucky lucky enough to be made captain.

No white smoke reported from the media center Windows as yet. North was reported though as having a book of raffle tickets in his hand as he arrived this morning :scared
