Ideally, yes, but where do we find a quality spinner and how often would one be needed? I'd be happier with a spin bowling consultant to mentor the likes of Trevaskis and Whitehead. Imran Tahir, for example.

England v Australia T20 at the Riverside next year.

A great fixture but presumably it's our only international game next year.

I think once a year is all we can manage a complete sell out. Give us a nice financial bonus.

What puzzled me was TB getting a test match. Earlier this year they announced the test match venues for the next 5 years and TB wasn't on any of them. Instead they'd got 5 years worth of T20 finals day to compensate

Not like the ECB to not have a *modded* clue what they are doing

Bangers dropped for the 3rd test. it would be typical if he didn't play again since he was taken away from us. His replacement was first man out for 8 runs

Yep. Probably unlucky to be dropped after two tests given all of the openers on both sides have failed aoart from Burns who has played very well but also had a fair bit of luck.

Decidedly unlucky-apart from Smith, I thought he played the opening bowlers better than anyone-at least he hung around for a while. From a Durham view it's good news- it
increases his chances of being available for the meaningful portion of next season.

Yep. It'd be ideal if we could get him back for all/the majority of next year.

can't help but think that the Bangers ship has sailed, and it's hard to see why Dame D'Arcy would sign for another year after the way things have gone in t20 recently. he wouldn't be short on offers (no pun intended) next year

Also hard to see why ticket sales would continue to go up next year with the team getting a reputation for choking in every game. Gate money is driven by success not capitulation

However..... Hameed is being released at the end of the season, and tbh, we are likely to be in a good position to sign him should we want to. More than any other county, we are the ones most likely to have money to spend on new players having shaken off the constraints of the reduced salary cap.

we would certainly be in the market for another opener, and if he has had some problems with form and/or confidence at Lancs, then a move is often just what is required.... look at Lees... look at Plunkett.

In other news Lancs have signed Luke Wood for next year after he rejected a new contract from Notts... which I'm guessing may affect Graham Onions should he fancy a new 1 or 2 year playing contract

Heard something tonight from a regular about problems between Rushy & Franklin. Franklin not impressed with Rushy's performances in the fitness tests. Impression I got is that it could be a serious issue. The regular I was talking to is someone who wouldn't engage in idle talk so I'm sure what he said will be correct.

I saw Rushy tonight. He looked lean enough, tbh.

lets hope it turns out to be a non-issue

That's all we need.Is Rushy fit to bowl? Yes! End of discussion. Reminds me of FST's response to Gordon Pirie when he suggested he did laps around the deck to keep fit. That after a 1000 over season. Fred looked at Pirie, looked overboard and said "Cans't tha swim lad?" .
