It works out as £6,000 for every year a player was at the initial county between the ages of 15-23 but minus £6,000 for every year after the age of 25.

That seems reasonable and a fair compromise. Players have the right of freedom of movement so compensation payments should be of a size that won't prevent movement but discourage random poaching. On the proposed scale Durham would have been entitled to sums that would probably have discouraged those counties who poached our mercenaries from doing so.

Good point. Just a shame it's happened too late for us to benefit .

According to The Daily Mail Wood was pulled out of this current game after scans on his ankle but FTECB medical staff are not overly concerned and just decided to take an ultra-cautious approach.

Interesting forum after the days play with Botham and Bancroft. The room was full, Emmerson said he'd never seen so many people turn up at a forum.
Botham was his usual confident self saying that the third promotion spot is irrelevant because we will easily finish in the top two and that the media critics of the decision to make Bancroft captain don't know what they're talking about!
He also seemed to say that he was the one who decided it was time for Lewis to go.
Bancroft very impressive and charming - he said he was surprised his painstaking innings on day one didn't drive away the crowd and that he was delighted to captain such a great club. There weren't any questions from members but no hint of bad feeling towards Bancroft.

I'd suspect that in the present situation FTECB medical staff means Wor Nige. If Wood isn't named in either of next week's RL50 squad, it's very worrying for him.

It was Lewis himself who decided that Lewis should go because he wouldn't accept a restructuring of the coaching staff but I doubt if ITB made any effort to dissuade him. Bangers appears to be a genuine lad and he's got over the 1st hurdle which was his 1st innings. Pretty certain he'll fill his boots in the RL50 campaign.

Crowd have been waiting over 2 years to watch a Durham batsman gritting it out at the crease. I'm just hoping it will be infectious

Yep, signs are good for him. I thought the curse would strike when he was in during the first over but he never really looked like getting out.

Woody was at the ground today. He'd been having a net.

He looked fit and well, so all the ankle stuff must have been precautionary, which is good news for him and for England

I've finished Stuart Rayner's Five Trophies and a Funeral book. As expected it was excellent, certainly doesn't shy away from some of the mistakes made.
Towards the end there's an amusingly tactless comment from Jon Lewis saying we brought back Will Smith to add some experience to the squad and Ben Raine to add some quality to it!

Also mentions FTECB , and Gordon Hollins specifically , referring to the importance of setting a "precedent" with the sanctions ...then Rayner asks Hollins how this precedent would apply to a division 2 club with relegation not an option and Hollins replies saying he doesn't think a precedent has been set and that they would judge any future clubs request for " intervention" on its own merits!

Just as well he wasn't asked why we brought Rimmington to the club then.
I got to know Gordon Hollins pretty well when he was here and always found him a pretty straightforward and forthright guy. He had to act as the firefighter at FTECB trying to defend the indefensible autocratic decisions made by Graves which, I suspect, he had no say in.

Yep, Hollins mentions he had a meeting with the group set up to fight the sanctions and that was something he didn't have to do so I think your assessment of him is correct.

It'll be interesting to see how the new sports bar fares. Seemingly it's going to be open 7 days a week with live music on several nights.
