How good of Poynter to end his international career! Not sure what they see in him but he's clearly rated by the coaches.

Popular with them apparently. He's a CC standard w/k so happy enough to have him as reserve.
No mention of Rimmington so presumably he's been released.

If Rimmington has gone I think he might have been unlucky - unless he wanted to leave. I don't know why they can't just put out a list of retained and released players so there's no confusion.

I knew he was going to do that

good of the announcement to point out how close he came to captaining us to a T20 QF, whilst failing to point out how shambolic a side we became under his captaincy. Did he not get dropped by the end of the campaign, or was that just wishful thinking on my part

I think that decision to make him captain was met with widespread incredulity! Can't blame him for the disastrous batting collapses but still...
I suppose he won't be costing much and a backup keeper in case of injury to Eckersley is required but I don't think his batting is good enough at this level.

Apparently he's regarded as a positive influence in the dressing room by the coaches. If so he's probably a suitable senior figure to captain the 2nds and is a reliable stand in CC w/k. As such probably value for money. If his batting was good enough he'd have committed to Ireland or another county.

Agreed. Certainly a useful squad member and very experienced compared to most of the others. I suppose the judgement on these extensions will have to wait until we know the full squad for next year and whether or not they're bringing anyone else in to strengthen the starting X1.
The comments from North are not encouraging on that front.

Neither have I, can't remember if his deal was 2 or 3 years.
I like the first comment under the twitter post about the awards dinner- somebody complaining because it is being held outside the County!

it was 3 years ago that he moved, and I've always supposed that it was a 3 year deal

I'd forgotten it had been 3 years!

Glad we're thrashing out negotiations to tie Poynter down to a new deal, and not putting money towards Amla, or anyone like that....

Maybe Amla heading to Surrey might free up Borthwick!
Poynter on presumably modest terms as a reserve keeper might make some sense...but only if we bring in a couple of players to strengthen the first choice side. Batsmen with a record that demonstrates an ability to score runs in FC cricket.

no mention of Rimmer on the BBC 'county ins and outs'. Harding and Pringle are in the out column as released players and there is a mention of Poynter staying, so presumably it's fairly up to date. It may as simple as nothing being confirmed officially, so perhaps there are negotiations going on ahead of a final decision by player or club

Yes but Surrey are probably going to lose Burns, Pope and Currans to England which will decimate their batting. Badger being released will depend on how many batsmen they can recruit.
Could Rimmers have been released to allow the return of Bunny?
