Poor captaincy from Northeast

Over rate is -3, so bowls Dawson before lunch and picks up a wicket with final ball (rate drops to -2) then after lunch instead of persisting with Daws and perhaps bowling Wetherley, goes straight back to seam.

Kevan James was saying that the rate had changed to -1 after lunch and that they'd hope to work that off by the close, so they may escape any points deduction.

By all accounts the wicket on the IoW next week is an absolute road, so don't be surprised to see 600 play 500. Rahane has arrived now.

We would have lost without him, hope he's available for the final.

Sky commentators mentioned that the final is on the same day England are playing a World Cup warmup match and as Vince is unlikely to play in that game it would be sensible to let him play for Hampshire. If would be the logical decision - far better off for him to be playing a match rather than carrying the drinks.

The difference with the final though, compared to the weekend just gone, is that England would have to make the call to release Vince before the ODI.

It was easy for the SF yesterday. England played the day before, and the two games were on the same ground. Whereas for the final, because England play on the same day - and at a different ground (ironically it's the Rose Bowl again that England play) - they would need to make the call the day before. Even if their intention is for Vince not to make the final XI, how willing will they be to make the call to release him the day before? What if, say, Bairstow twists his ankle an hour before the match starts?

I'm hopeful that Vince will be available. But I'm not counting my chickens. (Without Markram already though, we'd have little chance vs Somerset without Vince too.)

Good point. They might want to hang onto him in case of a late injury.

According to The Times ICC regulations are that once the final World Cup squads are announced, the selected players can't play any other cricket . So Vince won't be available for your final. Assumimg he's in England's squad- and he surely will be.
