Already got a very good total against a strong bowling line-up. We got rid of Jimmy for you!

Jimmy has been diagnosed with a torn leg muscle and is a doubt for the tests. Ludicrous that Lancashire sent him out to bat- can't believe ECB countenced that.

Yep. Seemed ridiculous and even if he hadn't been injured they were just reducing their chances of winning by wasting time.

Gareth Batty was taken ill overnight and Kent were prepared to allow Surrey to replace him only for the ECB to forbid it.
This was when the match was still in the first innings and Batty had played no part in it.

Spirit of the Cricket Award to Kent's captain right there!

Though I can understand why the ECB have refused this, sets a precedent in future matches and other captains might want to take advantage of this.

Yeah. Suppose if the rules are open to interpretation it could complicate matters. In Paul Collingwood's last game there was a great deal of confusion over Middlesex's choice of a like-for-like replacement. Can't remember the precise scenario but it was something like them only having one extra player who was a spinner and he'd be replacing a seamer and Middlesex were about to bowl the 4th innings. Had to suspend play to call ECB HQ- couldn't get a reply so I think the umpires decided he could bad but not bowl.

Substitutions are only allowed in the case of concussion. Surprised Umpires felt the need to consult. Batty might be fully recovered by tomorrow.

Looks like Yorkshire will escape the innings defeat.

But need Botham and Dilley to come in next for anything other than a loss.

So Yorkshire post the 2nd and 3rd best opposition scores at Chelmsford this season, and yet are still on course to be thumped in a similar manner to us, Somerset, Kent and Notts.

Good luck Warks next week.

Somerset taking a big risk preparing one of 'those' pitches

Notts didn't even bother bowling most of their seam attack in that 3rd innings. this is what got Somerset into trouble in the first place. trying to throw people off the scent by sending one of their 2 best spinners out on loan for a couple of weeks won't fool anyone

the closer they get to the title, the more they are reverting to type

What fine form Murtagh is in.

After putting Zimbabwe to the sword in their ODI series he travelled back the next day to get 5/44 for Middlesex
