I wonder if the fact that this is an extraordinary season with no promotion/relegation pressure, it will change how the players approach things. Not at Durham obviously where there's a very familiar look to the score.

I think it will certainly affect selection. I think coaches will be more likely to pick young, inexperienced players. It certainly looks that way at Northamptonshire. It hasn't gone well so far.

Early days. I agree, it should provide opportunities for younger players and the relative lack of pressure might make it a bit easier for them. Although I guess the downside is that clubs will have taken a big financial hit so anyone out of contract at the end of the season might actually feel more pressure.

Northants have already told Rob Newton that he will be released at the end of the season. I can't see him playing much this season.

He's been a stalwart for many years?

Made his debut in 2009. Has become a first-class specialist and returns have dropped recently. His career has been affected by injuries as well. I suspect all this meant that on our small means he has become a luxury in the view of the county. He certainly has had some good seasons and is only 30, so he may get a place elsewhere.

Thanks. I thought he'd be older. Hopefully he can find a new club.

Davies and Brooks put on a century partnership for the last wicket to lift Somerset to 296 all out.

Bresnan proving his worth straight away for Warks. Tidy economical spell with the ball and 72* so far with the bat. Point to prove, I reckon

Leicestershire looking pretty good today. Ben Slater will get the plaudits but they have quite a strong top three and an accelerating middle order. Little under baked in the bowling department but they look much improved on recent years.
"It has been said of the unseen army of the dead, on their everlasting march, that when they are passing a rural cricket ground the Englishman falls out of the ranks for a moment to look over the gate and smile."
