Sri Lankan Major Clubs Limited Over Tournament

This competition has been ongoing for a while and caught some of Negombo’s utter mailing of Tamil Union today. Tamil Union were rocketed out for 99, courtesy of figures of 4-23 from Sri Lankan fringe player Nisala Tharaka.

It only took Tamil Union 27 overs to get all out and it took Negombo even less time to overhaul it – they did lose five batsmen on the way but caution was thrown to the wind.

Despite this comprehensive victory, Tamil Union are still second in the table with Negombo now third.

Sandun Weerakkody’s 196 runs across three innings for Badureliya sees him top the run scoring charts whilst nine wickets @ 11.33 for Nondescripts Chaturanga de Silva sees him with the edge in the wicket taking column.

Watched the Colts systematically dismantle the Police Sports Club today. After a Priyamal Perera century helped them to 313 they then rattled the Police out for a mere 116 in 26.1 overs. The Police are so far winless whilst the Colts top their group.

It's all change at the top of the table for runs and wickets. Sammu Ashan has scored back to back centuries for Sinhalese and is now 38 clear at the top with 271. Three players are tied on eleven wickets but Ragama's Binura Fernando has the lowest average at 9.72

Bloomfield vs Badureliya was my game of choice today.

I cannot imagine their are many instances of 50 Over Games where an opener has made 150+ but ended up on the losing side, but that was the fate of Nipun Haggalla. He scored 52.25% of his team's total of 289. Only one other of his team mates got above 30 with 8 of his team mate registering 10 or less.

Bloomfield never always looked comfortable but got there with 2 overs left in the tank.

In terms of overall success, Binura Fernando got another 3 wickets for Ragma to take him into the outright lead with 14. The leading run-scorer has changed once again with Sinhalese's Charith Asalanka taking over from his team mate Sammu Ashan courtesy of his second century of the season.

Selected individual performances of note in this tournament today came from:

Umeshka Morais with the frankly unbelievable figures of 7-46 as Burgher got Bloomfield out for 163 chasing 353.

Udith Madushan got 3-37 in what was a very good bowling performance for the Saracens however the batsmen of Sinhalese proved too strong.

Keshan Wanniarachchi's competent 64 to see Kurunegala sweep to an easy victory against Sebastianites.

Kurunegala have won convincingly again courtesy of a score of 83 from captain Sameera Sadamal. He helped his team to 327 - a total that the Police could not get to within a hundred runs of before losing all their wickets in the 43rd over.

It is all change for most runs and most wickets again. Moors Mahela Udawatte has had three 50+ scores in his last four games to take the mantle of highest run scorer whilst his team mate Praveen Jayawickrama has 15 wickets at 16.4

The Army, Nondescripts, Ragama and Badureliya have all progress to the Semi-Finals at the expense of Sinhalese, the Navy, Tamil Union and Moors.

Kamil Mishra scored his second century of the season in Nondescripts comprehensive victory over the Navy. The 19 year old got 107 off 114 to help his side to the total of 337. The Navy were rattled out for just 170.

Ragama are looking the team to beat though. They top the run scoring and the wicket taking league with Janith Liyanage's 414 being the most runs and Binura Fernando reclaiming the most wickets with 17.

Despite Ragama having the best individual run scorer and the best bowler, they were put to the sword by Nondescripts today.

Another century for the young Sri Lankan Kamil Mishara, his third of the competition, took Nondescripts to 286.

Ragama made a balls up of the chase and were all out for 141 within 30 overs.

As I touched on above Ragama's Janith Liyanage (461 runs) and Binura Fernando (23 wickets) topped the batting and bowling league.
