He's been a terrific servant, but perhaps with the latest ECB priorities it's a case of 'ask not for whom the bell tolls'.

Seems to be a suggestion that it might have something to do with him getting divorced. Don't know if that's the case but it does sound like a genuinely personal reason because both parties seem to be going out of their way to push the personal angle.

I have heard he is headed to Edgbaston - nothing to substantiate that though.

A great loss and not sure who or how he will be replaced.

Yes, we're really down to the bare bones now in experienced bowling options- Potts possibly lost to England- although he's probably a bit down the pecking order if others are fit, Carse injury prone and also on England radar when he isn't. Coughlin injury prone....so that leaves Raine ! And he presumably will be involved in The 100 again.
We'll need an overseas bowler and also make some shrewd domestic signings.

Bostock didn't get his dream job, despite all his toadying, so it looks as though we're stuck with him and by extension, North

He might try and coax Rimington out of retirement to replace Rushworth!

Must admit, I assumed he'd be heading back to Leicestershire. If he was willing to move north I wouldn't say no as a short term fix though....

I would say no. He lasted longer than almost anyone, even Colly, but he is most definitely done now

Warks have confirmed the signing of Rushy on a 2 year contract with the chance of a further 12 months after that

It's a good deal for him, I think, and (although I hesitate to say it about a club legend) it might yet prove to be a good deal for us..... unless he does an Onions, of course

Warks won't have to bowl him into the ground the way we would have to, so it could well prolong his career

I'm not sure how it can be a good deal for us. Even after a (for him) mediocre season, Rushworth would still walk into pretty much any county side, and I don't think our threadbare squad can just absorb his departure. If we had a decent sized squad, with players fighting to get into the side it might be different, but we were woefully short of strength in depth last season, and have since lost one of our better batsmen and our record wicket taker. Obviously his personal circumstances have dictated this situation, and after all his service to the club I respect his wishes, and hope that a move away brings him whatever he needs, but from a Durham viewpoint this feels to me like a huge loss. IMO we need at least two good quality batsmen and two bowlers (presumably one of which would be an overseas player). If I had faith in the decision makers to bring quality players in, then again, maybe Rushworth's departure wouldn't feel so depressing, but personally I don't, and when you take away players who will be snaffled by England next season, our squad is ridiculously light.
