Well at least we bowled them out for under 300, which had we been asked to field would represent a decent enough day. But we chose to field, so we needed to bowl them out for less than 200 and certainly under 250 to justify the decision

Either we bowled very poorly, which we didn't really, for long periods we bowled rather well, or the decision was questionable. We'll find out if the decision was wrong at the end of the game, I suppose

Salisbury did his nightwatchman job very well in that one over. I have a feeling he's done that before. Did he nearly score a maiden 50 last time, or did I make that up?

Got 45 against Middlesex.
I think Derbyshire definitely had the rub of the green and were fortunate to reach 100 only 5 down - excellent batting from the 6th wicket duo after that against the older ball ( or older balls!)

This morning I was amazed we wanted to bowl but now I think it wasn't necessarily the wrong decision- think we are in trouble though because Derbyshire have got more than they should have thanks to a fair amount of luck and one excellent partnership. We look light on batting too so I'm not confident- luckily I'm usually wrong!

I'm curious to find out how Lees will approach the game. Will he take his time as he normally does and try to build a good platform for the rest, which has been his method for the last couple of years, or will he go full England and charge down the pitch first ball?

Not sure about Mackintosh's batting, because he's down on the list to come in after Trev and Ben Raine. Bedders shoved down to 5 again, which I don't really like. I prefer him at 4

I'm pleased that McAlindon picked up a couple of wickets at the death.

Yeah, looks like a fragile lineup. Not sure it's wise to play a keeper at 8 when there are only 5 specialist batsmen and one on county debut.
Wonder where Eckersley is?

Have to feel these two need a 150 partnership if we're going to get back into this! If we concede a big first innings lead then I don't think either the pitch or our batting unit will give us a chance of successfully chasing down a big score in the 4th innings.

If Eckersley is moving on Mackintosh has looked good so far - kept well and batting nicely- although there has been some dodgy running between the wickets. Every wicket this afternoon has been given away with terrible shots. Good news I suppose is that they all made some runs before gifting their wickets so we are still in the game. 67 behind with 2 wickets left.

well, Raine Mackintosh, McAlindon and Rushy doubled our 7th wicket down total and got us a small lead. 2 wickets for Rushy and a decent end to a day that was looking horrible at one point

well done to the young debutants. If Mackintosh keeps this up he'll be a first team player next year. As I said yesterday, his keeping looks tidy and organised. 5 catches so far in the game

Think it's fair to say this is a new ball pitch! Nothing happening at all so the target is going to be a...challenging one. I know the lower order saved the day yesterday but if the top order don't set a solid platform I fear it will be curtains new ball pitch or not!

New ball due in 7 overs so that at least might be interesting - wonder if Derbyshire will be proactive against it. Suppose it depends how ambitious they are. 32 overs left and the lead is 212.

another woeful day in the field. 150+ partnership in the first and almost a 250 parnership in the second innings. Desperate!

lead is 316.... will they declare overnight? Perhaps not, but duPlooy has demonstrated exactly why it's worth not throwing your wicket away and waiting for summertime where the batting is easy

At least Rushy has snaffled up a hatful of wickets. 11 in the match so far.

Harmy was defending the Key policy of preparing batter friendly wickets (except at Cheltenham, of course) and he was asked about whether the Riverside snore draw pitches were good for the spectators. He acknowledged that it wasn't ideal, but noted that the square had been relaid again and said that the club knew that this was likely to be the result for a couple of years while everything bedded in. I might rebook my membership for 2024 then, because the entertainment value this year has been as poor as I can remember :no
