cakewalk in the end.

yes..... things to feel positive about for next season

then again, we thought that last season too and this has been the worst season in several years

Thanks!
Yes, if North looks at the upturn in form and decides we don't need any further additions then it will be asking for trouble.
Robinson an excellent signing- looked at Kent twitter and their supporters are angry- lots saying they rate him hogher than Billings.
However, we need at least two or three further additions.

Absolutely agree. The letter which accompanied the new membership bumf mentioned "the forthcoming addition of some new faces". It depends what that means. For me, at least two good quality domestic signings are needed, then look at the overseas situation. Try to create a good solid spine of the team, which can hopefully help the young talent to come in and thrive. My cynical side fears that the new faces will amount to this new wickie (who admittedly sounds decent) and an underwhelming aussie overseas batsman, followed by another season like this one.

don't be too disheartened KO, the new faces might also include a new head coach and a new CEO

True DF, look on the bright side - no Franklin! Oddly, (for me) I was optimistic about the last two seasons, which has made the reality seem worse I suppose. Fingers crossed for some good signings, and a decent coaching appointment.

The thing I still don't understand is that the accounts suggest we had the budget to strengthen the squad for this season - Robinson signing reinforces that suggestion because he was someone lots of counties will have been after so won't have been signed on the cheap- so why didn't we do it? Only two reasons I can think of - either all our targets turned us down or , for some reason, we made a choice to operate on a low budget.

Exactly. We were successful when we had the right mixture of Academy players and good quality experienced pros brought in. The way to develop our youngsters is to bring them into a side where they're playing alongside experienced cricketers.
I don't think we're far away from being a good side but we need a few additional signings

has to be by choice, for me

Durham is a good gig for players, especially with the chance to rub shoulders with the England captain when pressing a case for selection. Stokes has a powerful voice in that, I reckon.... not like the old days when selectors foisted unwanted players onto England captains.... Darren Pattinson ahem, ahem

I agree, has to be by choice. Killer saying Jones is away with Scotland next week.

I saw he'd been called up, I just assumed it was for after the last game of the season..... silly of me, really

he's had a good season Michael Jones. Very encouraging

If Matty P hadn't been so spectacular this year, I might have been tempted to give my player of the season vote to Jonesy

according to the team sheet we're opening the batting with Trev?

if ever there was an indication of a ridiculously small squad, that might be it

Capt Beaky said he wanted to bowl first today anyway and quipped that losing the toss and being asked to bowl made 270-2 look better than if he'd put them in. He also added that Coughin had to go home at the last minute leaving them a bowler short..... which begs the question, why would he have chosen to bowl? :stupid

I'm regularly found complaining about the irritating 50, 60 run lower order partnerships, but I'm not often found to be complaining about a whole string of 200 run top order partnerships. If there's an irritating lower order partnership in this game, we might find ourselves facing an 800 total. Maybe they'll tke pity on us and declare once they get to 700-4

Notts needed to draw to guarantee promotion, so they prepared a road to help with that. Fair enough.... but capt Beaky wanted to bowl first had he won the toss, which is the thing I'll take away from this match. And he wanted to bowl first despite finding himself unexpectedly a bowler down just before the toss

I'm chuffed to bits about Warks. Kind of the inverse of the Durham situation of a few years ago, where for years and years the counties could never relegate Durham, so the ECB took it upon themselves to do it for them. Here the ECB refused to relegate Yorks and so the counties did it instead.... result!
