Ackers and Coggers bring up their 50 partnership

Not much in the ways of boundaries to be had, so they must be doing some running. Keeping the scorecard ticking along, hopefully with little risk

well, the new ball had its say

all over a bit quick, really, but 358 is a decent enough score against the attack that Essex boast.

Sam Cook did his job well, shielding Elgar from 11 of the 12 deliveries we sent down

We did much better than I expected against that attack. Still being in the game after day one is encouraging. Bazball from Bedingham and Robinson and a wonderfully measured century from Ackermann.

Watched and listened to the commentary which was excellent. First they had Marcus North, then Ryan Campbell and head groundsman Vic Demain as guests. Fantastic conversations.

it's been a feature of the last 2 seasons. All parties seem very willing to sit in a booth and talk during comms. It gives a good insight into the club's thought processes

I very much approve. I doubt it would have happened with Franklin

I have become a Durham supporter from these conversations yesterday. Sounds like a well run county. Not like Lancs with Benkenstein....

Good to have you on board- although it might be a bumpy ride!
Not much happening here for the bowlers and the forecast tomorrow looks poor.

At least the run rate is under control for now. Always a danger though that they could suddenly cut loose.

oh dear.... not the scorecard I was hoping for

I hope someone has measured Khushi's bat :no

I've wrecked myself down the allotment again, so won't be heading down, and I'm away until Monday teatime from tomorrow. At least it's warm watching Essex bat and bat for a change

What do we make of Parkinson as a spinner? Looks a bit ordinary to me.

Essex look as though they plan on batting once, before letting Harmer loose on us tomorrow after tea.

I still have to make myself not think about 2021 when Harmer bowled us out in about a session to claim an exceedingly unlikely win.

I think it was '21...... I keep trying to forget it

That's the worry. This attack are more than capable of bowling out a side very quickly.

I haven't really given myself the chance to have a look at him in the flesh. There are a lot of people who think we signed the wrong brother, but it's early days yet and a rotten time of the year to not be a big turning leggie

maybe we can get Cam Steel back ;)
