Apparently, Villas Boas is the best thing to happen to Chelsea since Jose was appointed. One of my colleagues who's a massive Chelsea fan told me this...

One headline today says Villa-Boas will give Roman six - meaning six years.

I'll give him six months.

The biggest issue that will face this new Chelsea manager is the ageing squad. Ancelotti could not overcome this problem last season and it will only get worse in the coming season. If Chelsea finish in the same position next season as last season (which would be a good achievement for the manager) he would face the sack. The problem he faces is this; he must win a major piece of silverware i.e. either the Champions League or Premier League. I don't know how they will win the Champions League (Barcelona are simply too good) and they will lose the Premier League to United again unless they go all out in this summer transfer window. I don't see them going wild spending £100 million+ getting 2 or more marquee players.

I feel in all likelihood we will be talking about the new Chelsea manager in a years time. Not saying this manager won't go on to bigger and better things but he really faces an uphill task in succeeding with Chelsea. Maybe his talents would be better suited to Manchester City.

Well.... He lacks experience to say the least, but how many European competitions has Hughes won? He's had a chance to win the Europa League with Blackburn and Man City but hasn't. It's not the CL but Blackburn and arguably Man City historically speaking are not as big as Porto. Hell, if we measure by European Cups then neither are Chelsea.

But why does Abramovich want this Aston Villa-Boas or whatever his name is?

Hiddink was in the frame but if they couldn't get him why not go for another big name? Hands up anyone on here who had heard of this bloke two weeks ago.

Well yes, Hiddink would have been a better choice I'm sure. He (Villa-Boas) is incredibly inexperienced and this would surely be a major concern- maybe Abramovich wants to build something for the long term, but then this would go against absolutely everything he's done at Chelsea to date. This though is a once great Chelsea side surely in need of a fair amount of regeneration- so an up and coming manager may be the one to fit the bill if this is Abramovich's line of thinking.

As for your final point though, well yeah followers of European football would surely have heard of him. A good article on what he would bring to the table...

Like I said yesterday, his attention to detail is fantastic...

I guess you need more than a good CV to manage Chelsea....

I think managers now see Chelsea as a nice way do earn a decent bit of wedge for a few months.

Otherwise no-one would touch it.

I wasnt suprised, he said when the Chelsea job was available, that he wants to build his career and the Swansea job was perfect for that.

Yeah, he said the same with Spurs I think when Redknapp was being touted for the England job and he was looked at as a replacement according to BBC.

Not any more.
I reckon he made the right decision. Swansea may end up struggling next season, see Hull and Palace. Rodgers may have then missed his chance of managing a big club.
Good luck to him :salute

So Rodgers pldeges his loyalty to Watford - the walks out to join Reading (who sack him)

He turns up at Swansea, to carry on the work started by Martinez, pledges his loyalty to them, then joins Liverpool.

The dayafter hes signed a player for a club record fee.

Nice.

Ill have a bet Martinez ends up at Spurs.
