i would rather woakes played the longer form of the game to be honest...yes he is a good prosepect, but i think there's much better bowlers ahead of him in odi cricket.
Dont disagree but noone learns faster than Woakes. But Im not sure the media appreciate just how good his batting is and will be. I think he will end up as a batting all rounder TBH. The other worry is his workload which has been ridiculous at Warwickshire - hes going to have shin problems fro the rest of his career.

Better for individual players to replace members of a settled team. I'd be trying for the settled team first, mostly.

If Woakes' bowling isn't good enough for ODI cricket then how will it be good enough for test cricket?

IMO, his style of bowling is better suited to test cricket.

I thought Woakes was supposed to be putting pressure on Ravi and Samit, not Broad and Bresnan.

He hasnt got enough variety - eg a good slower ball in one days yet. What's a nagging economical length and line in FC cricket can become predictable and hittable in the short game. Hes learning.

IMHO Bres is a good cricketer but slightly overrated. It is the usual case of a player who is made to look better while he is injured and not in the side.

Maybe not quite yet - but he will be. He was leading wicket taker in Div one last year till his shin problems, but still took 50 wickets and averaged nearly 50 with the bat. Give him another year. But Warwicks have got to manage his workload better.

Not much backing for Kerrigan, who was in the paper's team.

for me the issue i think woakes is going to have when it comes to tests is how he fits in to the team respective to the conditions

what i mean by that is i dont see him being part of a four man attack but the conditions that suit him best, ie those where there will be seam and swing movement, are when we are least likely to play 5 bowlers. whereas the conditions where we might play five bowlers, which is essentially the subcon, will see conditions that i dont think suits his current ability as a bowler.

And if Stokes bowling come on - Im guessing he will be in by then for his batting anyway - we will really have some options. We'll bat very deep and wont be carrying a 5th or 6th bowler.

Be nice if one of the inevitable emergees is a left arm quick

We've practically won it already.

I'm a five bowler poster, but there is a risk that you can start picking bowlers who don't deserve to be in the side, because they can bat at seven, or balance an attack in Asia. Bresnan gets in the side as a bowler. But if he's injured, do you pick a bowler for his batting?

Me too. But only if 5th is an allrounder. But with 4 bowlers my theory is that batting shouldnt come into it - but has to, to an extent, because you cant have 4 rabbits.

Im not sure that makes sense but its my view.
