Morris said that Flower and himself would be meeting KP, understandably he probably left out Cook's name to aviod the press conference being side tracked any more by journos trying to ruin Strauss' day.

Settling the KP affair seems always to come up against deadlines, currently it's the decision over central contracts. Having deadlines does not create a good atmosphere in which sensitive matters can be dealt with.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Hugh Morris is not a national selector so he and Clarke are clearly not singing from the same hymn sheet.

Surely that wont happen.

I wouldn’t rule it out. Notwithstanding claims about “leaks”, the ECB have stuck to some honourable principles so far, but how long can it last?

They seem to have grown tired of the media so I wouldn't be suprised if the next solid piece of news will be KP either getting or not getting a new central contract.

When this is all settled there really does need to be a long hard look at how the setup works with the modern media as off the record briefings and the old ways of keeping people in the loop clearly do not work in the modern world.

We would all do well to remember the heading of this article. That's what fuelled all of this.

Strauss has retired - for good - and meant it - and did it in a proper and dignifed manner.

No matter who the player, age ,skills, etc the difference in honesty and integrity, which should be an inherent part of any profession, is enormous.

I'm a huge fan of KP's batting - his behaviour in all this just simply saddens me.

Correct Morris isnt a Selector though he is the Director of the England Cricket team so will have a big say in the negotiations, I suspect that this is a preliminary matter to discuss recent events and try and see if theres any way forward.

After that though I woull probably be down to Flower and Cook to sort out the dressing room, probably with a warning any more disruptive behaviour like the last month and he'll be out never to return, with his NoC held up indefinately in channels.

That's desperate stuff. If Pietersen said those things today, it might seem a bit provocative. But it's old news, and nothing we haven't heard him say elsewhere. I may even yawn.

"Test cricket is right up there, most definitely," he says, "but IPL and Twenty20 cricket is a matter of fact now. Every board has accepted it apart from the ECB, unfortunately. Some part of international cricket may have to give because the IPL is not going away. No one in their right mind would turn down the contracts I have been offered." The implication, in his own words, that Pietersen is playing Test cricket largely to ensure his own brand awareness remains high will also leave England's managing director, Hugh Morris, aghast as he determines whether Pietersen can be part of a united dressing room under a new captain, Alastair Cook. "The best players in Test cricket have got the best contracts in the IPL," he says. "You know that's where you build the brand."

Not long ago he was protesting "it's not about money" this interview gives lie to that claim. He also claimed how much he loved playing for Eng;and, this article tells us that playing for England is in order to increase his commercial value.

He makes no good points about England and the IPL, really. It probably escapes Pietersen that the timing of IPL impacts England more than any other cricketing nation. Sometimes, he gives the impression that if brains were gunpowder, he wouldn’t have enough to blow his hat off.

Apparently he does know, though perhaps somebody told him, that he owes his value to the IPL to playing test cricket for England.

It may be old news but, despite his volte-face on YouTube, many will not believe he has really changed his attitude.
