I like the look of Beer. Him and Rafiq are quite good prospects along with Briggs and Borthwick. Thing with Borthwick is that he doesn't get much of a bowl for Durham.

Hes actually played a few more matches away than at home. In thsoe hes got just 25 wickets at 45.

Obviously hes got potential but a spinner has to be able to compete when things arent 100% in his favour to get anywhere.

Personal viwe is that Beer wont make it. Hes a non spinning leggie.

I like Briggs in one day cricket a lot. FC cricket he needs a bit more turn IMO.

Will bow to Splinters on Borthwick as Ive not really seen him. Dockrell looks good as does the Yorky youngster. But there arent many around. Lots of counties have some pretty ordinary spinners IMO.

I should think that has a lot to do with it.

The thing with Beer is because he's only ever really been a regular in the limited overs formats he now bowls like a limited overs leg-spinner. He doesn't go for trying to outfox the batsman with turn, guile and craft, he basically tries to do them in the flight. Same with someone like Sunil Narine of the West Indies, in a limited overs match where you need to hit out it's quite effective. Thing is any batsman worth their salt in first class cricket will happily just sit in and milk you for one or two off the pitch all day in first class cricket.
