the ongoing talks should only be a "concern" for those people allowing their personal prejudices to judge what they think is best for the england team
People have their own misconceptions about squeeky clean images. It makes me laugh that Alan Shearer was once dubbed the "Mary Poppins" of football because he was seen as the flagbearer of honest fair play, while the Irishman and outspoken natured Roy Keane was seen as an evil and vindictive player worthy of scorn for his dirty play!!! Shearer once got Keane sent off when Shearer threw a ball at Keane in anger, and Keane reacted by approaching him...... both acts of petulance, one was punished simply through premisconceptions.
The English press love certain players, usually those who off the field dont say much, and forgive the trespasses on the field. Alan Shearer once kicked Neil Lennon in the head and escaped punishment, elbowed Colin Calderwood in the face leading to him receiving stitches, and left Ugo Eghiogu needing facial reconstruction after a boot to the head left him with a shattered eye socket..... never received any punishment for any of it. My favourite is, after being sent of in a turbulent game vs Inter for elbowing Fabio Cannavaro, Shearer was not fined by the club while the outspoken and controversial Bellamy was fined 3 weeks wages for a challenge that he got sent off for in the same match that was far less vindictive.... simply because one was seen as the problem child!
Some like Martin Johnson was also portrayed as a demi god of fair play, but bounds of opposition managers and plays criticised him for rather unfair and violent play.... some people just fit the bill when they are the classic white, educated middle class players who say the right thing in press conferences.... people simply dust over the bad things. Even now, having checked, there is no reference on wikipedia to Ugo's injury, and articles you dig up suggest it was a "collision" that injured him, not a blatent stamp on the head.
I mean personally I think Jimmy Andersons on the field conduct has been questionable through out this summer, constantly giving needle to Graham Smith even if he is off strike, his attitude to a few drop catches was quite thunderous, but he is seen as the good bboy so people ignored this.
