The enigma that is Kevin Pietersen

What's buzzing in the world of cricket....

Were they during the game? You can't have phones in the dressing room.

People just communicate by texting now. I wonder how many texts have been sent between cricketers in the world? Can't imagine it will be few. Forming friendships in international sport is one of the good things about the whole enterprise. I've never heard that cricketers are allowed to communicate in only limited means.

Having a chat with them before or after a game is a far cry from sending clandestine text messages during a game, whatever their contents.

You should really read the context of the comment before concluding hftb.

If you see earlier comments, KipperJohn said this -
Whatever the Daily Mail or other media say/write is irrelevant. What was is in them is also pretty much the same - it's the fact that he sent them that's important

to which AC replied this -
Can't see why players shouldn't text the opposition. Are they allowed to talk to them?
It's a game. it takes place in the real world.

Its a response to a particular statement made by a poster. Dont see anything wrong in what AC said.
Dont we blame newspapers continuously for picking quotes out of context and printing them?

What on earth are you on about Dilbert. Maybe you should read my exchanges with AC more closely.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Does anyone else not understand this at all?

Worth remembering text gate broke after the press conference and his extraordinary behaviour in the dressing room towards James Taylor.

Seems damage had been done by then. Texts were a symptom of what had been going on, not the cause.

Tho the idea that he was advising SA how to get out Strauss has always seemed totally ludicrous to me.

Millions, I would imagine. It’s what they contain, rather than their number, that is most relevant to this discussion, though.

I communicate by text as well. Hopefully the difference is I endeavour to engage my brain before I do so and think of the consequences. I would suggest that in legal terms, a text now has the same standing as a letter or email.

As I feared all along, it was always going to be too much to expect for a sports governing body to put principle before profit.

Not sure there's anywhere to go on texts. We just disagree. Certainly the ECB are not suggesting KP was not allowed to text the opposition.

According to cricinfo, KP has given assurances that the texts had no tactical input, and were not derogatory.

KP is to rehabilitated. When he moves into a new house, he has to go around all his locality and tell them that he has previously been found to text sporting opponents.

More shortly...

Well, my only point was that KipperJohn implied that what the Daily Mail printed, or what the texts conained was irrelevent. The fact that he sent texts was important. Which implied that he shouldnt text opposition members anything... may it be offensive or a joke or just say "hi".

To this AC replied that he can't understand why players shouldn't text the opposition. Are they allowed to talk to them?

To which you replied - Having a chat with them before or after a game is a far cry from sending clandestine text messages during a game, whatever their contents

So what I understood out of this is that AC just asking why a player should not text opposition at all... not referring to KPs texts here. So eg - if KP texts Yuvi "piechucker" during a Ind-Eng test match (hypothetical), it shouldnt really be an issue. Thats what I was trying to point out.

Again, if I am mistaken, apologies for that.

I agree with what you are saying Dilbert. Thanks for the comments. But as all posts have been made with goodwill, it doesn't matter to me.

KP has pledged to communicate in future through tapestry, so that rules out a repeat of this episode.

I think KP should just disclose the text he sent and solve all this mess. It will separate milk from water.
