Indeed. I think that this is increasingly feeling like the Korean War situation.... the ceasefire is in place, but I just get the feeling both sides are technically at war and all it will take is one spark and the fragile settlement will lead to a call to arms.

Basically echoes what a lot of people on the KP side of things have said for a while.

I don't think Holloake's comments have anything do with being "pro" or "anti" KP - in fact I think the very terms just demonstrate how little about cricket the entire issue has become - they are simply a mature reflection on the situation and one that all parties have badly needed to see from the get go.

Collier is now pointlessly making enemies with CSA. This is amazing. Presumably we was sent in to smooth over the PR?

“We were actually quite surprised how much contact there was coming from his side.

“It all came out because it was true. The text messages were true. As a team, we were quite surprised how much he was giving us.”

I dont like the sound of that at all

ECB now disengaging from the responsibility of their behaviour, seek to blame the South Africans.

I know I had said I'd left this thread but if there is a word of truth in that article then the ECB and England have been played for complete fools from day one.

Very sceptical about that however as seeing there is no record of what was said to whom the only person who could have thrown any light on it would have been the man with his head on the chopping block, drowning men and straws springs to mind.

I do wish the ECB would just let the water run under the bridge now, they've made their decision about how to move forward so how about just getting on with it!

Now that it seems that Pietersen will play for England again, of course Collier has to put an anti-South African spin on the saga in order to try to smooth the way for his return with a large section of the cricket watching public.

Whether he sincerely believes what he says is another matter. As we have seen, principles are things that seem not to be held onto long by the ECB.

KP and the ECB get together to blame the South Africans

Correct me if I am wrong, but all KP has said on the matter of the texts is that it was banter between friends and the messages were not derogatory... something the ECB have had to accept...

Yes, it is something the ECB have had to accept, at least publicly, to smooth the way for the return of Pietersen which, it seems, was what they wanted all along, after a punishment they may have thought was the minimum that many people would believe suited the offence.

Pietersen’s sneaky antics had to be seen to be punished but it seems now that the ECB were planning a swift return for him all along.

Neither party emerges from this with much credit.

…and the usual bland, toe the party line, nonsense from any member of the England squad when interviewed about their attitude to the return of Pietersen.

That's Broad and Anderson. Swann is holding out though, and nothing from Bresnan. Nice to hear from the two so far.

Is there a deadline for KP to be included in the squad other than "is on the plane when it leaves"?
